Default TSP 1-7/8 header install - help!

I'm installing a set of TSP 1-7/8 headers on my '98 A4 T/A. The left-side header just won't go in. I have the car on a lift and am trying to install it from below (it doesn't look like it would go in from above). I've disconnected the left motor mount and lifted the engine as high as it will go. It's close, but it won't quite go in. Any thoughts?

Driver or passenger side? (sorry, left is subjective to the direction you are facing)

Can you see what is blocking the way?

Driver's side. It's hitting on the oil-filter mount area on the engine (oil filter has been removed) and on the subframe on the opposite side.

I read a little while back that you have to remove the motor mount and pedestal to get the header in... Not sure if it's true. I haven't installed a set of these.

I didn't have to remove my motor mount pedestal, but i had my tranny out (getting it built) when i was putting tsp 1 7/8 headers on.it was a major pain in the butt. i took my oil filter off too. believe it or not, the one thing that was holding me up was the head of my drain plug! i took the oil pan drain plug out and it gave me that extra 1/4" i needed to wiggle the headers up there! good luck man!

remember to have lots of wrenches handy(to throw) and scream loud obscenities! that's the key to every successful part install!

To install my kooks 1 7.8s i had to take the motor mount off the k member. Its the only way to get the header in.

Got it! Thanks guys. I disconnected both motor mounts and lifted and pushed the engine as far as possible toward the passenger's side, oil filter out. I had to play with it quite a bit, but then it just popped in!

what about disconnecting the steering shaft> that would give you a lot more room to maneuver. I did this for my ARH and they went in like butter.

wow thats a whole lot or trouble to get some headers in...more then i have ever heard or experianced. my ARH on the driver side slide right in...infact i had trouble keeping them from falling out when i was bolting them up. as for the passenger side i had to cut a little tab off the heater box and it slide right in to. This was me doing on the ground on cinderblocks...wish i had a lift lol

when i had hookers headers i had those in and out a bunch of times and never had to unbolt the motor either...just sayin
