MSD ignition system?

MSD ignition system?
I've got an ls1 with only a tune and a K&N air flow system on the engine. I was thinking about putting a MSD ignition system on it, but was advised to do some research first. If anyone has had any experience with this system and the pros/cons, I would really appreciate the input! I'm also open to other suggestion of what to spend $900 on to max my performance.

cam, pushrods, timing chain, oil pump, and valve springs...all these together could be had for less then $900. the stock coils are good to well over 700hp and there is no reason to change them. i am sure a guy that owns MSD coils will chime in and tell you they are not necessary.

^ Yeah.. There's not really much you can do. The Coils are pointless and if you got a 6AL box, that would mostly be for a swap and carb'd motor. The stock system is pretty powerful. You could do a set of NGK Tr55 plugs or TR6's for higher power levels.

I went to buy some NGKs once but was told that the porcelain was crap and that in a box of 4 you'd be lucky to get 3 good ones. But I also heard that they were proven on a stock ls1 to raise the HP by 8 on a dyno. So I will look onto getting a set! Thanks again for the input!

Sounds like it's tune up time for me! I'm new to ls1 tech so I didn't know anything about site sponsors. This has been great information and I will stear clear of the msd ignition system!

The MSD 6010/6012 boxes were designed to be used either stand-alone with a carb or piggy-backed into the factory PCM with an add-on harness. When used with the factory PCM, you'll get complete programmable control over your spark curve, single or two-step rev limiter, boost retard, control for a shift light, etc. Pretty much whatever is available in stand-alone mode is (allegedly) available in piggy-back mode although I don't recall ever seeing anyone actually do this...
