in addition to the cam you will need AT LEAST: push rods, valve springs, ls2 timing set. it is also recommended to replace the oil pump, motor mounts( if you haven't yet), trunion upgrade, u/d pulley/balancer.

and of course a dyno tune.

here are some of the best cams out right now:
http://www.engpwrsys.com/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=16

if you don't see one you like give them a call and they can spec you out one to suite your needs. the 222/226 is a beautiful street cam.

dude you can get close to high 3's with just bolt ons with an m6. but honestly almost any off the shelf cam will get you right where you are wanting to be. Just keep in mind your weakest link, the rearend.

no problem.

btw his tq would look better up top with a FAST. and he was also running 3.42's and a cam like that really needs 3.73-4.10's. don't forget EPS does a lot of custom grinds, which is the best route IMO.

When i first got my 99 z28 i thought there wouldn't be nearly as many things that i could do to it in comparison to my gen 1 SBC but i am pleasantly surprised with the amount of after market parts and forum support.

cam swaps usually run around 1800-2000 for everything. parts, labor, bolts, gaskets etc etc(remember dyno tune is inlcuded). if you take the initiative to buy the parts over a period of time and spread that out, the bill isn't nearly as bad.

here i'll price some things.

EPS cam: $400
push rods: $110
ls2 timing set: $90
patriot dual springs: $255

optional:
melling oil pump 10296: $140
comp trunion upgrade: $140
asp u/d pulley: $215
TSP basic camshaft bolt/gasket kit: $54

^ It's not.. There's bolts ON it, but it's not a bolt on..

Grab a pushrod length checker while your at it. Get the right measurement and avoid the guessing game. (unless you're having someone do it)

And if you want 300 at the wheels, just get a full exhaust, lid, TB, TB Bypass and get it tuned.

yeah don't worry about labor just yet, that's up to your shop. as well as dyno tune. you can discuss that with them the closer you get to actually pulling the trigger. i would focus on peicing everything together.

well put it to you this way...my stock oil pump failed at 50k. i bought the car at 47k from an old man who had it from day 1 back in 2000. he never put anything other than mobil 1 synthetic and never beat on the car. i also put mobil 1 synthetic in the car. annnnd the pump just failed...on a BONE stock motor, with lt's and a lid. the melling is a completely aftermarket design, stock style but CNC machined and anodized body, bigger gears, bigger ports, heavier contruction with high volume out put and the option to swap springs to make it high volume/high pressure.

stock trunion...uncaged needle bearings, cheap construction. will they hold up? yes they will, i am still on my stock rockers with h/c/e. however people have had bad luck in the past and it's only 140 bux for cheap insurance and knowing you wont have an issue. the beauty about it is you can have it done any time, but cam swap is the best time to do it. or maybe the next time you have the vc's off, or when you do a head swap. i will be upgrading mine very soon, along with lifters.
