Default A good Y pipe for my headers??

Ok, so I went to the speed shop to install my hooker headers, which cost less then $300. The shop will do the install for $500, plus $300 for a Y pipe?
This seems a bit steep...
I'm sure I can get a much better Y pipe here, my only question is, what Y pipe will work with my headers??

I thought $300 for the Y pipe was a bit more alarming. Most places have quoted me 500 to 1000 for the header instal.
I also paid $800 for a dyno tune.
Anyway, my main question is if there's a generic Y pipe that will work for my headers or if I need to go with a Hooker Y pipe?

Texas Speed just released their off road y-pipe in a stainless version, and I've been hearing really good things about them. Here's a link where you can see their ORY and Catted Y together. http://www.texas-speed.com/c-75-headers-y-pipes.aspx

I know these are made specifically for Hooker and Pacesetter headers. Plus, the merge on both y-pipes is way better than the Hooker y.

For 300 it had better be a custom one! I would find a reputable exhaust shop and have them make one with a Flowmaster merge. It'll flow great and eliminate most of the drone. Do it right the first time and you wont have to worry about it down the road.

I'll be getting this. Tried to order and it wouldn't work. I guess I'll call them tomorrow

I can't imagine it being more then two hours of labor (maybe 2.5?)for a professional specializing in exhaust. 100/hr is normal. But NOT 5 hours...

You can pull a motor faster than that

If you choose a catted Y pipe, does this limit your hp gains? Also will this reduce how loud the exhaust will sound?

That depends if you have all the necessary tools and time.

It will lower your HP maybe 1-2hp, and yes it will be quieter.

Catted Y pipe is priced high as hell...though I don't want that insane noise. I really love how my SS sounds now with just a Borla.

My SS had a Borla catback only on it, and I thought it sounded great. The WS6 I went to look at had long tubes, catted y pipe, catback, and was loud (relatively calm at idle though) and sounded great. No rasp that I heard really. I still think I will go with TDs with no cats though.

$800 for a dyno tune sounds kind of high also. I thought $4-500 was generally the going rate.

I thought this as well. A reputable shop around my quoted me $350 for a lifetime dyno tune (only have to pay for dyno time after that).
