Default 383 Idle problems

Hey, iv'e storked my ls1 to a 383, did a head and cam swap, changed my intake and TB and now when I start the car it seems to hunt for idle, ranging from ~400 t0 1250 rpm. It seems to be a lot worse when the car is cold, as it may take a minute or 2 to settle out. I am thinking it is the trottle body (80mm BBK). does anyone have any solutions?.

..when I had the car tuned, I was not with the car and it got missed. or ismy only opinion.

What idle is it eventually settling to? What oil are you using? My 383 tends to sit for a week or so between starts, and lately with the temps dipping, I found it nearly dying for the first couple minutes. I switched from 10-30 to 5-30 oil and the car does a bit better on the cold starts. Also, what is your voltage doing during the first few cycles of cam surge? You may want to consider your charging system... Just a thought.

It can probably be tuned out with the low speed idle tables either adding or removing air. My 383 does the same thing sometimes, when I first start it it will kinda surge sometimes and then settle out when the engine gets a little heat in it. I had mine tuned by one of the best and It is what it is.
What MAF are you running, I have the TSP 102 and think my idle may have something to do with that.

I still have the stock MAF, even when the car is at operating temp, if shut it off and then re-start it, it still surges for a short time. If I try to drive before its 100% settle out, I find the car stubbern. Do you guys have this problem?

..once the car settles down and goes into open loop(or closed might have it backwards) it seems fine. Every bnow and then I find it will idle about 1100-1200rpm if roll up to a stop light, put around in slow traffic. Anyone experience this?

..I'm using 5-30 oil already, I think I may have a weak battery, going to change that right away.

FYI, that screen people were buying from saxonpc helps the TSP 102. I put a screen in mine and it helped get rid of a code... which means the air direction is certainly not perfect for monitoring air without it! Not scientifically proven on my car, but it sure gave me $10 worth of peace of mind.

You know, I may have that issue as well... I'll have my charging system checked as well.

I havent been able to address any thing yet, I work on the opposite side of the country from where I live, so it will be another week before I change the battery.

I also had this surging at idle. Brought it in after dyno tune. The MAF tables were adjusted slightly, and the set screw for the throttle on the throttle body was also adjusted for the base idle. This was the only actual mechanical adjustment that was made. It appears that this is a bad design feature of our cars! Idles perfectly now.
