Default Cutting under air lid to get more air flow?

I poped my hood last night and my buddie recommended me to search a thread to show how to cut out under my air filter, to be able to get more air flow.. Any ideas what he's talking about?

I did it and I noticed a little more of a throttle response.
If you go to InstallUniversity they have a whole article on how to do it!

But yeah just DONT drive over big puddles of water after doing it

Your increase in airflow will be trivial, and the "new air" will
be hot and dirty.
