Default stock balancer

I will be doing my head and cam swap soon and wondering if I should replace the stock balancer or not? If so what you guys recommend?

If you mean to upgrade to a good UD pulley, yes, I would.

suggestions for a good UD pulley? will one of those cheap (ie, summit) ones work just fine, or do i have to spend the money on the SLP one? (btw, noticed that the summit one requires you buy a couple of parts, and then one of the sponsor ones has everything with it)

Seems like a good deal for a quality part. By the time you get done messing around buying misc parts, you can already have the necessary things with this setup.
However, their balancer install tool looks like a longer pulley bolt. These are not as safe as the real tool, which has a completely threaded rod. With the threaded rod-style tool, only the top nut and the washers/bearings will be pulling your pulley safely onto the crank.
Not that the Scoggin tool won't work, but the threaded rod tool is safer/no chance of stripping threads inside your crank.
You may want to call Scoggin & verify the type of tool that they're including.
Other than that, it looks good.

OK, just wanted to revise my last statement.
That bolt shown in the picture IS the pulley bolt.
In a separate paragraph, Scoggin mentions the install tool. For that price, I think you'll be getting the proper tool. It would still be a good idea to clarify what type of install tool that it is.

I've got a Powerbond here and have no complaints. The coating has come off of the pulley a little bit but you can't see it from up top anyways.

Just a little info, the SLP pulley is the Powerbond one that you can find on eBay for a little cheaper. Do yourself a favor and buy a re-useable crank bolt while you are at it to make life easier on you should you ever have to take the balancer off.

Get the tool or make one yourself as well.

I think pinning the crank is only really required for boosted cars or cars spinning pretty high.

I have an ATI on my Fbody, and the install was pretty straight forward. Skoggin-Dickey is sending me one for the Miata as well. The only thing I will say, is read the directions and measure the crank snout and inner pulley hub BEFORE you try to wedge it on the crank. You should not have any issues, but always double-check.

The ATI is a much nicer and better unit. When you reduce the dia "ie UD" the ability to dampin is reduced. Not a good thing.

ATI is not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I went with the Summit one. I didn't have to buy any other parts. I always use ARP hardware What install tool ? You use the old bolt and run it on. Pin it if your driving a blower with it.

I recently had to remove mine during my cam swap and that damn pulley was so nasty looking that I refused to put it back on so i ordered an ASP pulley...bottom line is if you are going to remove it I would for sure upgrade it

You may have gotten lucky when you tried it but every time you use the old bolt to drive a pulley on you are begging for stripped crank threads.

Buy or build an install tool or you will eventually regret it.

I run a Power Bond...but wish I had gone with the ATI, it is far superior to any of the others.
Get an ARP Bolt as well.
