Default SLP Y Pipe

I want to make my ride a bit raspier/Louder without changing my catback (loudmouth1.) Will adding a SLP Catted Y-pipe do this? I know the factory y pipe is terribly designed and I figure this should help right?

It will be a bit louder, the SLP Y pipe will be lower than the flat smooshed one also. So it should flow a wee bit better.

Just switching out the stock catted Y-pipe to an SLP catted Y-pipe is not going to make a bit of difference. If you want it to be louder you need to ditch the cats, which will also make your car sound like ****. LM1s are known for sounding great with stock manifolds and cats, but sounding awful once you go with a set of headers and ditch the cats.

If you want a mean as hell sounding car then don't mess around, go straight to a set of long tubes and true duals with bullets from Texas Speed.

Thanks for your opinon, I guess I'll just have to buy a new DD since they do emissions testing where i live.

Dang, didn't know that. What I would do then is a set of long tubes, catted Y, and a small cam that'll pass emissions. With the headers and cam it'll wake it up.

I went from the stock Y-pipe to the SLP Y-pipe. If you compare the merges on the two the SLP's is much nicer. From my personal experience on my car it will actually make the car less raspy (due to the smoother Y-pipe transition) and make the exhaust a little louder and deeper. It does make a difference but not by any means a big difference. I have the stock dual/dual exhaust on my car which is very quite to begin with. You might notice more of a difference on an LM1 exhaust but I can't say for sure.

I just talked to the owner/mechanic of my local perfomance shop and he said it shouldnt have a problem passing with a cam if it has a good tune

There's a local SS_SLP that passed smog with a 224/224-116 cam.
That's with strict CA limits too
