Default 160° thermostat quit opening?

I have a new 160° hypertech thermostat that was never used before. When I initially started my truck I filled the radiator. It idled good without overheating until today it reached 270° with fans on. I checked fluid and it was low so I filled it and tried again with the cap off and it still overheated with no fluid flowing. I'm guessing it used to open judging by how low the fluid was in the radiator but now it seems stuck. I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with this t-stat? I have a hole drilled by the thermostat wall on the middle of the housing so that way coolant could flow even if the heater core was blocked so i'm positive its receiving coolant.

If no fluid is flowing then it's stuck closed not open. If it's stuck open it won't reach operating temp or at least not quickly. Sounds like you have an air bubble in the system. Keep topping it off, and trying to squeeze the hoses.

whats the highest point of your cooling system ?jack the truck up to get the air to that point.the lower hose is hard because the thermo ain't opening because of air on the other side, which is cooler.

right at the radiator cap is the highest point but ill put it on jacks. i mean like the lower hose is literally hard line, i put a piece of copper in because it was super close to my water pump and i couldnt fit any hose in there.

so squeezing the top radiatior hose is what i need to do?

I think it is air pockets. Its kind of hard to believe a brand new thermostat went bad. You just keep the crossover house unhooked then start it too bleed the air out?

Take the top radiator hose off that goes into the pump/block. Pour coolant in there until it is full then re-connect it to the radiator. Your block just has a ton of air in it..then make sure the overflow is topped off and start her up with the radiator cap off for about 10-15min then put the cap on.
