use the old harmonic balancer bolt to pull the new ballancer down and then remove it and replace with your new one. just make sure to place a thin film of sealant to the inside of the harmonic balancer shaft and always replace the harmonic balancer bolt with a new one, unless your using ARP bolts.

any silicone that is oil resistent will work and i just bought a bolt that was about an inch longer then stock to start pulling my balancer on then switched to the factory bolt to pull it the rest of the way i know you are suppose to use a new bolt but i never do and have never had a problem i just impact it tight and run it

Get the tool. Best $50 I have ever spent on my car. It literally took 30 seconds to put it on and there's no worrying about stripping threads inside the crank and having to torque the old bolt then the new one. Just pop the balancer on and torque the new bolt on.

normally i set it on the crank.. get a block of wood and lightly give it a small tap so the stock bolt will thread in.. torque that one down to get the pulley seated then use your new bolt/arp bolt and torque to specs

I believe AutoZone "rents" the tool for free. From reading horror stories of stripped and broken off bolts it should dissuade anyone from trying their luck at something less trustworthy.

all i did was put the pulley on the crank snout and put a piece of wood over it and hit the middle with a hammer until it was like an inch or 2 on the crank. then just thread the tool in and crank away til it bottoms out. put the new crank bolt in and torque it to 37 ft lbs and rotate about 140 degrees or until you cant turn it anymore. a breaker bar with a long pipe over it helps.

Heat up the pulley to 200 degrees in the center of it and it will slide right on far enough for the old bolt to seat it. To seat it just torque it to 240 ft lbs or until seated then new bt 40 ft lbs and an additional 120 degrees. To heat it up i used a propane torch handheld. Can be found at home depot/ lowes.

you can wreck the crank crush bearing using a hammer.use the install tool or make 1 for $30.you can put the pulley in the oven for a short time to help it slip on better, use welders gloves.
