Default Ported Throttle body worth it??

I was wondering if a ported throttle body such as a Shaner or Jantzer is worth it? How much HP do they add?? Is it a better option than say an aftermarket TB for $400 or so??

Thanks.

im beginning to wonder about ported TB's myself. read my sig and i made 428rwhp.

mikey from rapid did the tune....if you ever look at the dyno sheets mikey post in the dyno section, most of them dont have a ported TB or underive pulley and the funny thing is they usually make around what i have.

i do however have few more tricks up my sleeve to try to hit the 440-450 mark...and my dual 3" w/ X pipe is one one them.

I think the ported TB is worthwhile, especially when the bump stop mod is performed on them. My throttle response is a lot better with my ported unit, and the air flow is better. Won't show up on the dyno as much due to not having the same kind of air flow as you have when you're actually driving, but like the underdrive pulley, the gains will be better seen at the track.

It is worth it, I have a Shaner S3 and I could tell a difference in my car. For 159.00 its very good.

ported TB's like the shaners are very worthwhile mods ... they have shown gains of up to 12rwhp before on stock internal cars. I plan on gettin one soon.... the S2 is for cars w/ boltons or mild cams.... the S3's are supposed to be for cars w/ aggressive h/c packages.

Our TB's have seen 1-2mph gains at the track and 11rwhp on a chassis dyno.

I still don't understand why Shaner changes the TB's to work with different mods. The TB is just a door to the airflow coming into the engine, it doesn't know what is in front of it or behind it, nor does it car. To me that's like saying a Camaro TB would be ported differently vs. a GTO TB, same engine, same TB.

I agree with Bret.

It makes more sense to me to pay for a product that is worked over top to bottom, the very best a vendor can offer, rather than settle for his lesser work. Wouldn't it make you feel more comfortable that you're running the same TB, the absolute best work a guy can do, the same one he spent countless hours in port design and testing to run the very best.

Our TB's are on special for $110 stock appearing (all the good stuff less the powdercoat), $130 powdercoated, and $180 with a fully polished exterior.

Maybe Shaner has a marketing degree?

It's black or it's white....marketing guys will sell you different shades of gray.

I could tell a difference with the S2. Throttle response is a heck of a lot better.

I can vouch for Bret's TBs. I just installed one the other day and definitely notice a difference in both throttle response and power.

For a small amount of time, and a $5 tube of epoxy it's a great mod! That's considering you already have a Dremel and a drill...
