LS1 Meziere install help
Is there an affordable thermostat other than the $47 dollar hypertech, which will work with the LS1 Meziere?
I had no idea it would be so difficult and expensive to put a thermostat in this pump. They engineered this thing from scratch, so it begs the question "why make this so difficult?"
I had the pump in hand at two different parts stores in hopes to find a part that was going to work. At one store they brought out 4 different parts, and the catalog. I am still need the right piece and soon.
Thanks

Yep, I saw that, thanks. The instructions read as though all you need is a thermostat from the parts store.
The install talks of a "thermostat (hot side GM early style)"
The people in the parts store do not understand that any better than I do. The typical small block thermostat is too large to fit into the hole like you see on http://www.ls1howto.com

The thermostat sits inside the pump.

I never read the instructions but I can only assume 'hot side' can only describe the direction of the tstat - in other words the hot side would be the area that is spring loaded.
Whatever you do make sure you test that stat before installing. Toss it into some boiling water and don't forget to perform the drill mod.

Ok, I admit I am visually challenged and unable to read
You have to unscrew the inlet spout. Unucky for me it was installed from the manufacture, and it is tight. Hope that you have a 2" wrench for the job.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the t-stat that is supposed to be used inconjunction with the Meziere is part #02-1000, not the LS1 style. Cheaper too.

My pump is going on shortly, so I will need to know if I am wrong.

The 2.69 part [Murray 3008, 180F] from O'reilly Auto Parts will work. NAPA sells them for 4.99. They are 54mm in diameter, take the pump with you, as the parts guys seem to get really hung up on asking for year, make, engine, <ugh>. The link you posted looks good to me.
Installing the pump correctly is taking a lot of time, fyi.

You take the guts out of the factory thermostat and then reinstall the empty housing onto the Meziere. You remove the Meziere outlet neck with a strap wrench and put the thermostat that comes with it in there. You can use a Chevy small block thermostat and as was mention don't forget to drill the two small holes in the thermostat flange.
