Default Black Wing lid? What's so special?

I'm trying to figure out why they cost so much. Even used the're 300.00+ I don't see the performance advantage over their(SLP) lid that is less. Just asking.

I really don't know..?
I wouldn't pay $300 for for a lid, especially a used lid that you can't get a replacement bellow for!

No performance gain but there kinda rare now and OEM quality, all the other lids out there are thin and flimsy. Those things have really gone up though, I paid about $180 for mine when it was new and it's sitting in a box somewhere in my basement.

I like it because it has the oem look. Mine was ruined in the wreck, and I looked for another one, but decided it wouldn't support my setup and future plans. So I went aftermarket. I got my blackwing for my stock cats.

I have no idea. Between myself and my friends we have had about every lid and intake kit on an f body you can have and had zero issues with any of them. I guess the collector appeal of it?

It's mainly the fit, All other lids have an aftermarket fit, which isn't terrible but it isn't perfect. Blackwing has OEM quality and fits absolutely perfect. If i found a deal on one I'd buy it in a heartbeat I think it is one of the better looking ones as well.

From what I can tell, it still has that oval to round transition which is where the turbulence is supposed to be and hurts flow, hence the aftermarket design. I guess if you're trying to keep things original and they're harder to come by it'll drive up what people will pay.

Pretty much, it's the fitment and it has a nice OEM appearance to it, also it is said to flow just as good as a lot of the aftermarket lids out there

As others stated above, for me its the OEM quality, fit, and look, with the flow of an aftermarket lid.
I just picked up my second one tonight. I paid $235 for each, and one came with the air box base, and a K&N filter.

k&n filter is worthless, worse than paper filter and honestly, blackwing lid is over-rated and way too much money. my slp fit perfect

Over rated or not, comparing it to a regular SLP lid is like comparing painted pacesetter headers to stainless Kooks or ARH's. That is the best example I can think of, they both serve the same function and will both work fine.

The blackwings were made in one piece and are OEM quality. All the other aftermarket ones I've seen are made in two pieces glued together and are not OEM quality or fit.

Years back I did some flow testing with the black wing vs stock vs a whisper performance lid. The whisper won by a VERY slight margin. The fit and finish of the blackwing is second to none. I'm currently trying to cut the stock lid off its base and fuse it together with an aftermarket slp lid. So far so good.
