I'm running the TR6's w/ my new H/C setup, but I didn't change the gap. They're still gapped at the .060.

What is the benefit of the .045 gap?

Thanks

From guys I have seen, .045 seems to be a fairly normal gap for a h/c car. My buddies 99 ws6 w/ N20 we gapped them at .035 though...

They come out of the box at .039 correct? Either way I gapped them to .045.

Gapping the plugs more than +/- .005 from what the manufacturer gaps them at is not a good idea since the terminals will no longer be parallel to each other. N/A FI engines can handle large gaps like .060. Blowers, turbos,NOS run better with smaller gaps (like .035). Run cooler plugs as well as things get hotter on power added engines and promote detonation. Anyway, gapping more than +/- .005 from factory gapping of plug will concentrate the spark into a smaller area, so ionized area of energy is smaller, so less gas is ignited, which means slower flame front and lower cyl pressure and all around loss of power.

So I will lose power since I gapped my plugs .001 too much?

Also good for motors with a little more compression. (my case at least)

Damien and WILWAXU, How much are your heads milled? I got 5.3s that are just cleaned up. Just wondering if Ill benefit from a colder plug with a smaller gap. Im running TR55s at .050 now with no knock. Why are you guys running a colder plug with smaller gap and what are the benefits?

My heads are milled .020, compression is ~11.3:1 and I have no problems with my TR6's in 90 degree weather and 28 degrees timing. Nothing wrong w/ a TR55 in a stock compression motor, but anything above and i'd recommend the TR6 just for reassurance that the motor won't ping in hot climates. The TR6's dont give up any power to the TR55, and much less chance of detonation.

.042 is a pretty good all around gap. I had my TR6's gapped @ .040 and I never saw KR even on HOT Summer days in Houston, TX...and see sig for my setup.

Same here. Mine are gapped at .045." I ran my last set gapped at .050" with no problems, but went a little more conservative this time around.

On an N/A setup the TR6's help remove a little more heat from the combustion chamber and provide a little extra protection against detonation and/or knock retard.

still better off with a TR6?
i already bought some TR55's and Im not really wanting to drive an hour away to exchange em
