Did you check the tensioner? If an upgrade maybe a 8 rib pulley system?

I've also had the balancer pulley come loose and cause the belt to come off.

Sounds like you need to adjust your driving style...

That was my thought too. Maybe try shifting sooner, or have the fuel cutoff raised.

I've always had issues with the stock tensioner and going over 6200....
get a manual tensioner... stock tensioner wasnt meant to handle the vibrations of high rpms...
also, if you have an underdrive pulley... it will amplify it and make it a lot worse than somebody with a stock pulley size.

If it is actually a fuel cutoff and the engine is under load, you could easily smoke a piston. Hopefully, it's a spark limiter. Anyways, not good to be up against any kind of rev limiter. The manual tensioner will help...

Wrong...
The fuel limiter is much safer than a spark limiter...
Lean mixtures don't happen with a fuel cut off... its a zero mixture...which means no combustion and no pressure

Damage comes from a spark limiter... the fuel loads up and you get combustion at the wrong time...typically you get exhaust light off, which will blows up your exhaust pipes... it can also damage valves... and ocassionally you get the intake popped off.....

Also, it is not possible to smoke a piston from a fuel limiter... It will pop and spotter, but it doesn't damage anything except for your ego...LOL
