Default 1 7/8" Kooks install on 2002 Firebird

Im in the middle of installing my Kooks 1 7/8 headers and dual exhaust system. What is the best way to get the drivers side on because it is kicking my ***. The passenger side goes right up. I have the steering shaft off and the motor mount off but no luck. What is the best way?

Where is it stopping you? What is getting caught?

Just keep playing with different angles and twisting it. If you have a friend helping you, have them look down through the hood area to guide you. I had the same issue. Take a break, don't get frustrated. It will slide right in when you get the angle right, and you'll be asking yourself how the hell that happened.

It goes in from the top. Take the valve cover off.

Jack the car up more. With the steering knuckle out you can also try from up above. There is a tab protruding on the block towards the back that can sometimes catch it too. You could cut it flush if its in the way.

I got mine through the bottom once I found the correct angle. Slid right around the engine cradle. No need to remove the valve cover, but if you feel that's easier then go for it.

Different headers but 17/8 still, had to take oil pan drain plug off and.oil filter then twist a certaib way for it to go in. Best thing to do new gaskets and bolts. Just my .02 cents

Hold the header up so the collector is vertical and the flange is closest to the fire wall (vertical) slide it up and be easy. At the same time you are sliding up you can rock the collector back towards the rear of the car to horizontal position. The less force you apply the easier it will just fall into place. Removing the oil filter may help a little.

UnRegard! Just noticed you got it in!
