Default Looking for a lightweight battery for a Daily Driver, Specs on OEM battery?

Don't know much about batteries but as far as reserve capacity what is needed to make the battery tolerable as a daily driver battery?

What is the specs for the stock OEM battery for our cars?

Was told to get a miata battery but not sure on the specs of that.

Mazda Miatas used to (or still do) come from the factory in Japan with a high powered lightweight Panasonic battery. It can NOT be purchased here in the US-not even from a Mazda dealer.

I would suggest you look for a battery that has at least 500 CCA.

Check the optima 51/51 27lbs or Tomioka TR-B1500 15lbs. Kinda expensive for the Tomoika. I use the Optima yellow 51r and I don't have issues with it turning the motor over ever.

So far ive seen alot of people recommend the odyssey pc925

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc925series.htm

This is what im worried about the Reserve capactiy look at the reserve capacity of the tomioka, from what ive read the reserve is what makes the battery more street able. Not the CCA. Maybe i have this wrong im no battery expert.

50 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load

+1. For the price of an Optima you can move your battery to the trunk. The better weight distribution will make a bigger difference than 10-15 pounds.

admantium, the original battery for a F-Body is BCI group 75.

AcDelco lists them from 550 to 700 CCA.

For a DD keep your stock battery. You'll be putting yourself at a higher risk for a no start for basically nothing gained.

If you drive your car at least once a week for a nice little drive and don't have any odd power draws the small batteries have plenty of reserve. Just don't expect a drive-in to last long.

I drive my car everyday, the problem with that is i might end up going with an electric water pump sometime down the road and don't want to bother with worrying about my battery dieing or being a pain in the ***.

That wouldn't do me any good. Im trying to take away weight from the car as a whole, could careless where its coming from.

I might end up doing this or texting my buddy to see what specific "miata battery" He is using he says it saved him 15lbs or so and daily drives his car.

The batteries that are being talked about in the Miata world are:

Battery
/Cranking Amps
new (wet cell) Mazda
/370
WestCo/475
American Eagle/530

The "new" wet cell Mazda battery is what they come with these days.

The Panasonic battery is no longer used and there seems to be no good info available about it anywhere,

I too would like to learn more about the Panasonic battery but they were from years ago and technology has marched on. If you have the coin, there are Lithium-Ion batteries on the market.

Speed Inc carpet. Saves 40 pounds. Won't leave you stranded. Cost the same or less then a battery replacement, depending on the quality of battery you purchase.

Ive thought about it but a battery swap is 2 seconds and usually aftermarket carpets fit like **** and super loose everywhere (from my experiences with them), also don't really feel like sacrificing sound deadening. If i were to do it i would be installing the speedinc one. Also was looking into f1spec buckets between pass and driver theres a good 50lbs lost there, but the seats would be around 400-500 when everything is said and done. Also an MWC front bumper support, theres a million things i want to do.

Edit: Is it confirmed to really drop 40lbs? Did a small google search and alot of people are saying the stock carpet weighs 32lbs... The speed inc one is 19lbs uncut

Thanks again, i actually can't afford a lithium battery those are crazy expensive. I would have to ask 92cobranotch since he's the one who told me about that mod.

Stock carpet is around 50. Speed inc looks stock but ends up weighing about 10 or so when done.

Ahh yes but to compare apples to apples, the industry standard CCA (Cold Cranking Amps which is at 0 degrees) is the best way to judge batteries.
