Default Questions - LS1 to LQx swap

I am swapping a Pre-04 LQ9 into a 01 WS6. By my understanding, you need to swap over every from the LS1 -

Oil Pan
Intake
The cross over tube for the heads
All the brackets
Alt
Water
Power steering
Starter
Flexplate
Crank Pulley

Do I swap the coils? The truck coils that I have are the one with the heat sink on them. Are they better than the LS1 coils?

As for the valley cover... The LQ9 has the valley cover with the two knock sensors. I'm not sure if my LS1 has the smooth valley cover or the one with the two knock sensors. If the LS1 cover is smooth, do I need to replace the LQ9 cover with the LS1 cover?

Do I have everything covered; am I missing anything?!

Man, it's impossible to find anything with the search anymore! You get so much irrelevant ****!

Anyways, I was thinking... Will I need to have the car tuned after i drop in the LQ9? All I'm adding is LT with true axle dump exhaust.

It would be nice to get it retuned for the larger engine but as long as your still using the same injectors then you can get away with it for awhile but it won't be optimal..

Keep the stock Ls coils, you don't need the heat sinks.. I haven't seen substantial proof that they add any power worth while!

I have to search from google now and add ls1 tech on the end of every question to find anything now. Usually tech is the first hit and then have to click more results to find anything useful.

So am I missing anything that needs to be done with a LS1 to LQ9 swap?

Everything swaps over, treat the lq9 shortblock the same as you would an ls1..

Just know the lq9 is missing 1 bolt hole for the alternator bracket, however plenty of people haven't had issues with it..

Your ls1 will have the same valley cover

You'll need to swap the pickup for the F body pan (I would recommend getting a new one). If the oil in the LQ is in good shape and it had good pressure then don't mess with the pump. Replace the O ring though.

You will need to drill and tap one of the bolt holes for the alternator bracket and you'll still have one left over.

The valley covers seem to be the same. I used a truck cover on my 408 and it fit under the LS1 manifold without issue. Don't forget to replace the knock sensors & wiring while you're at it.

This is a VERY budgeted build. Can I clean my oil pick up and reuse it?

Do you have the P/N for the O-Ring? I can't find it.

As for the knock sensors, are the ebay sensors any good? I read that there was an upgraded option for the knock sensor harness and sensors, but the info didn't give who made them.

Thanks man!

Are the connectors on the LQ9 knock sensor harness the same as the ones on the LS1? The harness looks good and was wondering if it will connect into the Trans Am engine harness or are the connectors different.

12557752 should be the O-ring. You can try cleaning the pickup, it's up to you.

Not sure about the ebay knock sensors, I used Delco parts that I bought from Amazon. If the harness and connectors are in good shape give them a try. When I did my motor the harness was cooked and coated after 16 years.

Its real easy, as others have said.

Basically transfer everything that bolts on to the outside of the LS1 onto the LQ9.

The motor is IN and sounds like a BEAST with the open Edelbrock LT step headers with that 3.5in collector!
