Default What to do for timing pointer on ATI balancer?

I have an ATI balancer and a stock LS1 timing cover. I need a timing pointer to verify that the commanded timing in the computer is the actual timing and that when the nitrous retard box is on that it is actually pulling the timing I set it at. Where are you guys buying your pointers at? How do I accurately find TDC on a complete assembled motor to line it up correctly?

I was prolly going to take welding wire or a coat hanger and bolt it under a timing cover bolt and bend it to line up on my balancer.

That may prove to be a little too flimsy. You don't want any opportunity for it to move. I made a bracket and welded a piece of 1/8" filler rod to it sharpened to a point. The bracket uses two timing cover bolts. I plan to make a nice one at some point but this works. You can see it on the left.

Make a pointer.

And a simple piston stop type deal for determining TDC is easy, or dial gauge and rod poked down spark plug hole although that's a little awkward.

Mighty Mouse has some that work really nice with the ATI balancers.
