Default Home made TOTL

Way back in 04' when my 2002 z28 still smelled like new, my very second mod for the car, (after the carbon fiber finish whisper lid of course!) was my slp totl catback. My 3.23 geared Z ran 12.80's @107mph back then with just that... I remember ordering it new from summit for like $389 bucks! If I had a time machine I would go back and order ten more of them lol.

anyways that wonderful exhaust system is long since gone and I've missed it ever since...

if been looking at some different mufflers lately and I think I've decided to try and fab up my own totl but I can't decide what muffler to use. I'm thinking a magnaflow type muffler would probably be the closest thing to the original design but I'm not sure.

has anyone ever successfully cloned a totl? That sound is really what I miss the most. Please help me relive my bolt-on good old days lol.

Magnaflow or Borla will be your best bet to try and clone the original. Of course, case size will come into play and I figure a Borla would be a bit more aggressive vs the Magnaflow a bit more deep and mellow.

Same **** as the muffler used in the totl. Just better construction on the casing. If you can score a used slp system from a truck they used a single in dual out. Was same muffler used with the totl. Honestly cant see the value ppl put on those used systems. Unless you are restoring a ss/firehawk make your own.

I, too, bought an SLP 2OTL for my '98 Z28. I bought mine new in '04 from SLP. I still have it too. To be honest, I've never liked the look of it, but the sound has always been amazing! Very docile until you get on it and then it wails! No drone on the interstate and it's a great system. There were even tests "back in the day" that declared it the highest flowing exhaust, even against the Borla with the adjustable plates. I've always like the look of the Borla, and if I ever do switch over, I'd probably still keep my 2OTL and store it due to their rarity now...

Good luck duplicating it! I'll be curious what you come up with and how you like it!
