Default Did poly motor mount tonight...

Start: 2:50pm
End:12:30am

UGH!

Holy crap, this install sucked! All I can say is if you plan on doing it, get a set of geared box wrenches.

For a side note, we didn't remove my header (paceshitters), nor remove the steering linkage.

The clamshell sucks and took 2 hours. We didnt need a torch, just used a screwdriver and hammer to seperate it from the metal, and to seperate the clamshell.

Test results:
Drove it home and I hammered it quite a bit Oh my god, this has to be one of my best mods to date. My paceshitters were banging, on turns, and shifts pretty bad, causing false KR, thats all gone, and the car is faster than **** now.

I am tired...g'night

Thanks for the help hourang!

I feel for you guys. I ended up removing my steering rack in a fit of rage to get mine in. Much easier after that.

Do you reccomend this mod for a daily driver? I have no problems with my motor, banging, and what not, but what you described sounds too good to be true.

I got them from Thunder Racing

My car is a daily driver So yes, I would recommend them.

As to why I call them paceshitters; I have had them since Nov and...
The headers bang(ed)
The Y bangs
The coating on both headers has come off the lower half and is now rusted
The tops and flanges are becoming rusted-colored now.
Would you like some pics of the mess?

Paceshitters.

I had to cut My Y to get my header out so my impressions should be posted tomorrow after a weld.

poly mounts do not transfer as much noise as I thought they would.

I have zero banging from the headers or the y pipe (hooker ory).

OK, so from the replys the motor mounts pretty much eliminate the vibrations caused by the exhuast system? I just installed the Pacesetters and ORY and have some vibrations I previously didn't have. Well after I posted, I went and bought a poly trany mount and just removed the nut holding the drivers side up w/the hanger that they put on the newer ORY's . very simple mod took a total of about 10 minutes. Just letting the driver's side hang eliminated all the vibrations and the trany mount eliminated a vibration I had coming from the shifter area. I jsut have a vibration around 40 mph when I slightly took the acceleration and at idle. I had to move the idle down with the lt's( i wonder why?) and moved it down a little to much so I am getting some vibrations at when setting at stop lights but need to move the idle up. Currently when logging it idles b/w 625 and 685(the rpm guage is off by by about 250 rpms by the way on mine).

I also did both driver and passenger poly mounts, total pain in the ***! I took my driver side Paceshitter out as well, helped a lot. Getting the old mounts out of the clamshell was the easiest thing for me, drilled the rivets out, the shells pretty much just fell apart, my stock mounts had 85k miles on them, so they were dry and cracked. I have no more header banging on the driver side like I used too, and things seem more sturdy/solid now, I really like it.

Oh and my Paceshitters are discolored on the bottom, my flanges are still ok, but I hate how they welded the flange on the head side too, so you kind of need those thick paper gaskets to get a good seal. I had them on there, the driver side blew apart so I used the stock metal gasket, and I think it make have a little leak here and there, but I HATE paper gaskets!!

Any mild steel, coated header will end up the way ya'll are describing. Some take longer than others to reach that point, but it's only a matter of time.

What do you guys think about solid motor mounts? I have heard that they are not much worse than poly as far as vibrations, and offer more clearance, plus no clamshell to mess with. Have I heard correct?

A local guy has then on his Camaro, he says they are great. I have no personal experience with them, but I am sure they would be ok, maybe a little more vibration than the poly, but you can always take them off
