The stock bolt can be reused, torque to 240 ft lb's.

The stock bolt CAN NOT be re-used. It is torque to yield and it must be replaced. If you are running the crank pulley alone, you will need the 378K6 A/C belt and the 760K6 accessory belt. We have both of these in stock, as well as the bolt that you need (12557840) for $3.68. Here's a link to the belts:

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...1&sid=251#P310

You can use the part number above in our search feature on our web site to find the bolt. We also have the ARP bolt (113-234-2503) which can be re-used for $24.99.

Well, FWIW, Derek Real and Mike Morgan of Morgan Motorsports claim that "the crank bolt is not a torque-to-yield piece that needs to be replaced each time it is loosened" You can read the article here (along with a picture comparing the two types of bolts): http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...ch/index3.html

Also, CHP wrote up an article where they did a few bolt on LS1 mods, one of which was the installation of an ASP crank pulley, and they did not mention using a new crank bolt. http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...ech/index.html

I have done at least 20 ASP/stock pulley installs and I always use a new bolt.

Have you ever compared a new bolt and a used bolt?

The used bolt will be longer because it stretches when torqued and once it is strecthed it cannot not be re-used.

Yep, It was the pulley off my red car...I've upgraded to an ATI Damper on my new motor. Let me know if you need the bolt & belts!
Thanks again

I agree with Richie. From my experience, the customers that call me to say that their pulley flew off while driving down the interstate are the ones that did not replace the bolt or torque the new one correctly.

You can re-use the stock bolt, but it is highly not reccomended. Torquing a used bolt to 240 ft-lbs = break

Wow, is $3.68 worth your piece of mind? It is in my book.

Then how come it is very common to re-use stock header bolts when installing headers.

Because they are not torque to yield like the crank bolt, and they don't have 240ft lbs of torque applied to them!

If a header bolt comes loose you could develop a leak and that would suck...if a crank pulley bolt loosens up and comes out the pulley comes off and then and then you LOL.

The crank bolt is not a torque to yield piece. Look at the shaft that leads to the head of the bolt, a torque to yield piece is tapered till the top of the bolt, a non torque to yield piece is the same diameter all the way up to the head.

The crank bolt is not tapered= not a torque to yield piece.

I'd still buy a new one

No disrespect to Angie or TR, but has anyone ever bought from not-a-sponsor.com? They are currently offering both pulleys [with free shipping] for 98 LS1 at 202.25. I called and they said that
the parts are really ASP pulleys. Any thoughts or experiences??

I recommend buying from a sponsor. Maybe a couple bucks more, but they'll be there for any technical advice needed.
