I have an Optima red top and it is lighter than stock, but not by much. I love mine, it was a great replacement for the old stocker.

The only batteries that are significantly lighter than a stock battery are the dynabat and the generic one that is made by the people that make the dynabats, forgot the name. You will need a bracket made to mount it in the stock location though, but you could just relocate the stock on to the rear if you want to remove weight from the front of the car for alot less.

Here's the battery I have: http://www.gotbatteries.com/Productp...ctNum=37L105S1

So far no problems with starting or running the battery down although I do not run my fans with the engine off for very long.

Very simple to make this bracket from aluminum: http://www.mustangmods.com/data/440/battery.jpg
I can go back to a factory style battery in about 10 minutes. I kept the same connecting bolts to battery by making a couple of attaching pieces out of steel and tapping holes to mount.

the only thing is if you get a light weight battery it might not work if you relocated to the rear..

I made them myself. I used 3/4" X 1/8 rectangular bar about 1 1/2" long. Drilled a hold in one end and tape a threaded hold in the other the same size thread as my factory connectors. Very simple to make but you to have to have a 3/8 tap for the threads. Can get the steel bar and aluminum bracket material from Home Depot, etc.

Search is your friend -

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...=light+battery

I have the Hawker Genesis battery, only install it once in a while to drop a few pounds from the front and keep it charged up. It ran in the car full time for a month or so with no problems at all, but I threw in an Optima red for daily driving duty.

The battery comes with new bolts to put into the factory cables, or you can buy the adapters so you can use the factory bolts/cables.

I know some have. I could have, but usually switched it out after going to the track. But, there were times I got lazy and left it in for a couple of weeks - daily driving too. No problems at all.

They're sweet little batterys. Knocks off an EASY 20 lbs or so from the stocker I believe. You can hold it with two fingers...

You need to get some 3/4" x 1/8 thick rod from Sears, etc. Drill a hole in one end for the battery screw. Tap the threads in the other for your factory battery connector bolt. It will be about 1 1/2" long. You will need a washer to space it out from the bracket to prevent the plastic from crushing. Use this procedure if you want to keep your factory battery lines intact. I can reinstall my factory battery in less than 10 minutes.

Here's a pic of the connector arm I made. My photography isn't that good but hopefully you get the idea. Of course you will need two.
