Was wondeing, what did GM do the 01s and 02s that they don't need the AIR or the EGR? Would I lose anything from removing them off of my 98?

Thanks

01-02s do have AIR. It's the EGR that they don't have. Because the cam shaft on the 98-00 models was a tad more agressive GM had to use the EGR to comply with emissions. In 01-02 they got a milder camshaft that didn't require EGR but they did get the LS6 intake. To answer your Q.... you won't gain or lose anything (performance wise) by removing that crap. You might lose a couple of pounds and will make spark plug changes easier. your engine bay will also look cleaner too.

thanks, I was wanting to get the ls6 intake w/o EGR, so it would be ok to remove the egr crap. But what about the AIR? Keep it?

Yeah, I would wait until you install the manifold to take the egr off though. Or you can just get a blockoff plate for it. Same for the air, just take it off and get a blockoff plate as well.

are you keeping your cats? The AIR is there to pump fresh air to maximize the efficiency of the cats for a few minutes after start-up then it turns off.

Just like to say, I read on here that there have been those that experienced detonation from removing the EGR...

The detonation (pinging) is from the increase in cylinder temp. It really depends on, grade of fuel, and how clean the combustion chamber is. A dirtier engine is more likely to see pinging.
