Default Wires

I'm putting in my headers tomorrow, and I plan on changing the plugs while I'm at it. I've been told by my father (old school drag racer) that I'll need new wires, too, because the shielding won't be able to put up with the heat. I've read that I should replace them with low-resistance wires as well.

I really don't know anything about them. Please educate me on wires (what's good, what's bad, etc) in addition to any specific brand recommendations. Thanks a bunch!

i am still running stock wires with coated headers, and notice the back wire on the drivers side is uncomfortabally close to touching the wire. as far as wires msd makes good ones, you could probabally find some off a board member for cheap.

There's a bunch on the market. Get the cheapest one. I got the MSD for $60 a set.... better than stock.

Stock should be fine. Or stock replacements. Don't get the cheapest ones. THe cheaper of the two taylor wires, for example, are known to rip apart at the boot even when you handle them correctly. The expensive taylors, forget what they are called, and the MSD's are fairly popular among people with aftermarket wires. I got MSD's.

I got Taylor wires for ~$50-60. No problems here. I also got Taylor fire resistant sleeves to wrap them in for added security. Looks nice and no problems.

Stock stuff or GM replacements work great.

I've also had good luck with MSD's.

yeah I like the MSD's. they never gave me any problems. I had the taylor thundervolts 10.4mm and the electrode in the boot cam off and stuck to the spark plug. I sent them back to where I got them from(no names) and they sent me a new set and the same thing. so they said you want another pair I said naw, just send me the cheapest ones you got. and 20k miles later and 3 sets of plugs later no problems

I've got the Accel 9000 wires; great for headers, a little more expensive but they've lasted thru 2 sets of headers on this car. FWIW
