What's considered a bolt-on?
Like the title says, I'm curious what people consider bolt-ons. The following I pretty much assume are "bolt-ons":
- Exhaust
- Induction (lid, bellows, TB, filter, and MAF)
- Pulleys
- Suspension
But are these?
- Springs/rockers
- Cam
- Heads
- Pushrods
- Intake manifold

I don't even consider rockers a bolt-on. If it touches engine oil or is a power adder it's not a bolt-on. As for the rockers, think about it. You can add high ratio rockers that increase the lift of the cam, yet a cam isn't a bolt-on. Doesn't quite make sense to consider it a bolt-on IMO.

Im with the strict definition that a bolton does not touch oil. A full bolton car may never have had a valve cover off. Although I would say gears are a bolton mod since its not touching engine oil, but gear oil. Now is a built TH400 and 4800 stall converter considered a bolton?

I'd say a built TH400 and 4800 stall converter could be considered bolt-ons. Bolt-ons are usually power adding mods though. If it doesn't add power I don't think it can really be considered a "bolt-on", but is in another category of mods.

There is definetly a fine line here, IMO though rockers are a bolton, but then again thats just my opinion. What makes me think this way is the ease of which this modification can be done. Remove coils, valve covers and unbolt the rocker arm plate. Tada! Bolt on the new rockers to the plate and bolt that on top of your valves. Springs on the other hand step further into that other side of the line. Pushrods are right on par with the rockers though, at least thats what I think.
