There a couple options for a cutout.
Lots of testing has been done with y placement, many different combos, each one a job to do.
With a single cutout after the y, you have less material to install, and I don't think the engine cares one bit.
If you are interested or care in the least, do a seach and see what they come up with, try some more creative searches like 'cutout' and also 'cut out', you might be surpised at how much tech information you see right away.
Alternatively, if you bypass the y and place two (2) cutouts before the juction, you essenitally have a true dual setup without crossover (as long as there is enough lead pipe after the oxygen sensors), its cool because now the 'y' junction will look back at the dual cutouts and say you are my bitches.

Ya, I've been called a newbie before and I think it's a stupid name. Post counts, schmost counts....big deal. But really....If I was your mom, I'd wash your mouth out with soap.

And to answer your question..you dont need extra pipe..just have it welded in you I pipe before it turns up over the axle..you can tell where it will fit when you look under it. Its like It was made to go there

i hearby call everyone in this thread a dick, and my daddy can beat up yours!
lol
i would ditch the cats with a ORY if you can where you live.. then place either one cutout in the I pipe or two cutouts before it Ys together.
you'll see a gain either way, but until you approach the 450+rwhp mark, the diff in gain between them, both at the track and on a dyno, is inmeasurable..
