Default Help plz Coolant light keeps coming on :(

i had a antoher thread but wanted to change the title.Hello yall my coolant light keeps on coming on the last few days. Everytime the coolant light will come on i open up the cap and add coolant to top it off. Then it will be fine for awhile and the coolant lite will reappear. I been threw this 3 times all ready. The first time i drained my radiator and disconnected the coolant lines near the intake manifold and waited a minute while filling the radiator up until coolant came out of the hose and i reconnected it and started to add more coolant. While doing this proccess lost of coolant came out. So i added more coolant to the radiator until it was full. Everthing seems ok after that. But a day later the light reappeard. I got fustrated so i decided to fill the overfill tank. I accidently overfilled the tank till coolant was coming out of it. So i sucked up most of the fluid in the neck with a turkey strainer so that it wouldnt be too overfilled and used some skinny rags to soak them up i still think the overfill tank has a little to much fluid in it because i accidently overfilled it is this ok? I just finished toping off my car with coolant just now and my car is running now and the light reappeard again i let the car run till about 170 without the cap it was overflowing a little then capped it up till about 190 and the light came on again. I am waiting for the car too cool down right now to retop it off. The only thing i did to my car the last couple of days was add a slp fan switch and upluged the coolant lines going under the intake to to fill up the radiator. I hope everthing will be ok.

When I first bought my car my low coolant light came on as well, and it was the sensor. After a few months it did it again, again it was the sensor. Didnt come back on until on my way home from the track one night a while after that. I figured it was the sensor again and ignored it because it would come on and go off, did this the all the time. Well, one day about a couple of weeks after it started coming back on and off, my water pump spilled all over the parking lot at work. I never even found any fluid on the ground under my car or anything. Good luck with it.

Were was your water pump spilling from The gasket? Also was it just the gasket that went bad our the water pump itelf? Was your car operating at normal temps? How many miles were on the car at the time. Thanks

Dude, park your car tonight and put some flattened cardboard boxes underneath the engine bay. Check it in the morning, if there is any coolant on it it should be easy to tell where it is coming from. The coolant light might need a few drive cycles to shut off, not to sure about that though.

It might be just the sensor that is going bad ill just ignore the light for now and monitor the temps and water level often.

A lot of 98 & 99 cars have sensors go bad. Replace the sensor. The car does not over heat correct?

There was abot 80K on the car at the time, I dont recall the exact mileage. The pump itself was shot and I believe the new pump from napa was $180? Check your gasket though, it could be leaking.
