Default battery relocation worth it?

I know some people like to relocate their batteries to the rear of the car because they feel it gives them better weight distribution. Do you think it's worth the 1.) extra weight of the wire and 2.) any current loss?

I know some turbo kits require relocation of the battery for F-body LS1's due to room issues. Aside from this circumstance, maybe someone else can chime in regarding weight benefits...

The fractional weight of the battery is not enough to make any sort of difference. If you relocated the battery, removed the A/C, the power steering, and the front sway bar then you would have significant change.

I think relocating the battery would give you a significant weight balance change, not huge but it should be noticeable.

If you think about it, its not just taking 30 lbs off of the front, its also adding thirty pounds to the rear. I think this would be especially effective for drag launches.

It definitely will not be noticeable on a 3600 pound car unless you've already stripped it down to the bare bones for race weight purposes... then it MAY make some sort of a difference. We're talking .8% of the total weight here.

Every little bit hurts. If you are concerned with drag strip launches and want to do something move the battery to the rear or put a dry cell battery in the stock location. I assume anyone interested in this has already take steps to lighten the car and help weight transfer.

I thought this through alot this past winter and decided it wasn't really worth it. It can be a pain routing/grounding wires, hooking up a kill swtich too run through the alternator and, the fact that you are actually adding wieght to the car. So instead I went out and bought a 13lbs Hawker PC680. Droped it into the stock tray and spent a half an hour making a strap bracket for it. Total weight savings over my Optima was almost exactly 30lbs. This battery really isn't for a daily driver (even though I use it on the street) but, it's easy to drop in before you go to the track and only cost $75.

The 100 pounds of sound system in my car is enough to make a ENORMOUS difference in traction, since its all over the rear wheels. Without my system, i would have absolutely no traction. With it in however, regular street tires hang on pretty well. I would imagine a battery to be atleast a noticeable difference.
