simply twist it apart and make a spacer .90 thick to fit under the shaft where it sits in the housing, than twist it back together. With a .90 shim it will open @ 168* and still be able to fully close when cold. You can make a smaller shim like .70 and it will open at a hotter temp like 180*.(note not sure if .70 would really open at 180* just gave an example that a smaller shim would open the t-stat at a higher temp) The aftermarket ones basically just have a longer shaft...

i'm 21 and broke as ****, but i don't go ghetto rigging stuff...the car isn't a honda civic...the motor will be much more expensive if you mess it up by being cheap. get a job and save the cash...its not like its 1,000 dollars or something.

its the same damn thing if you stick a shim in it or buy an aftermarket one with one in it(or a longer shaft). Its not rigging it and its in many books/mags and has been done countless times. The aftermarket one is for the people too dumb to modify the stock one. So would you say modifing stock heads for more power is rigging it and we should all buy new heads????

there is also a huge difference between spending 2k on new heads for lil benefit when you could jsut port the stock ones....but what is saving 50 bucks on ghetto rigging a stock t stat that is gonna have to be replaced sooner or later anyway..its just piece of mind.
