5k launches as apposed to 3k clutch slips...........definately go with the 12-bolt. If I had the money now, I would do it, even though I dont have that many mods on the car. All those mods and no headers yet???

Well, these transmissions are pretty stout ... at least my 2000 Trans Am was, anway. This '99 I have now only has 44,000 miles on it, but, I have tortured it every bit as much as my last TA. It shows no signs of faultering. It's about maintenance until you get over about 450 RWHP and too much torque. I've had a full tranny service done on it every 10,000 miles. Hell, I upshift and downshift it like it's a manual and run the livin' **** out of it in the hottest times of the summer.
They're stronger than a lot of folks give 'em credit for.

As it was said, anytime is gonna' be good to improve the rearend, however, it's gonna' slow you down a tad due to the added weigh. Generally speaking, you're gonna' be OK (IMHO) until you start getting over about 350 RWHP. Hell, some folks break their rearend stock ... as long as you have it serviced frequently, it should be fine with just doing a cam.
12-bolt install at a performance shop will cost you about $3,500.00 with tax, labor and shop supply charges .... if you still want to keep your ABS and TCS. In the beginning, my reasoning was that if someone hits my car, insurance company is not going to pay me back that money for my rearend. The cam would be much less a loss. Also, anything can happen that will change your mind about modding further ... but, that's just MY pessimistic view. When you start getting a substantial amount of power, it's better to go ahead and get a new rearend so you can sell your good instead of waiting 'til it breaks. Then, you get no cash to recoup.
With your A4, I would do the cam first. If you had an M6, I'd tell you to do the rearend first ... especially if you upgraded to a stage III clutch.
