Personally, I did the "Free Ram Air" mod rather than hack up my hood. Mush better air flow when you open up the filter box.

Ummm, I'd rather do the free ram air mod and maybe run some ducting from the two holes in the front facia to that area than to cut up my SS hood. Not to mention the structural integrety of the hood latch area would be compromised. In short, try fabbing up a custom ram air set-up instead of cutting up your hood.

If you still must cut up your hood, basically it consists of extending the already existing holes on the underside of the hood. It's the part that goes right in front of the lid opening when the hood is shut. How much to cut off is up to you...

I also did the FRA mod. The SS hood is not very efficient anyway.

There are three slots in the hood where it meets the
air cleaner inlet slot. These appear undersized. But the
"web" is holding the hood layers together there so you
would not want to go -too- crazy with the Dremel. I
left that all be, and did a "sorta" FRA using the stub of
a SLP CAI and some plastic (from an old tree-sized
plastic pot) to draw air from above the divider panel
(avoiding the radiator space with its hot-at-parked
air). It's cobbled but can't be seen. It roughly
doubles the cross section that feeds the filter. I
also enlarged the passages in the "nostrils" behind the
SS insert (do not know how standard Camaro insert
is, about shrouding these; mine is open) by cutting out
the styrofoam that obstructs them, with a steak knife
and painting it black. This permits more cool air to feed
the hollow nose space above the divider panel.

The FRA, and the SLP CAI as-delivered, both are going
to give you -hotter- air than the SS hood under some
street (and staging lane) conditions. I saw this in logging
which is what prompted me to cobble up. The hot air
and its effect on IAT / timing is not going to be made
up for by the small improvement in pressure drop, at
the bad corners of the driving envelope. The IAT reading
will come around too slowly to get a clue and restore
best spark timing, even -if- the air temps come down
fast, in the quarter mile.

The SLP chief engineer once posted on the SLP board that opening up the holes in the hood would compromise its structural integrity.

use a resistor in place of the IAT sensor
i believe its a 4.7Kohm resistor it gives it a constant 57 degree reading so then its controlled
