Will I have any problems if I gut my Cat's?????
I'm running an STS setup and I'm thinking about gutting my cat's this weekend. Will that cause any problems of any sort, besides the fact that it won't be smog legal? Any help would be great. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I got O2 sims and a tuner so that part will be O.K., but good call on the getting every piece of cat guts outs. I didn't even think about that part. Busting off some turbo fins would defenitely **** me off. That's got me second guessing the idea now. Anybody got anything else to add? Thanks guys!!!!

I had long tubes and an ORY pipe and the turbo spooled pretty slow. It would't start spooling til about 3000-3500. So I bought a set of shorty headers and put the stock exhaust setup back on and the turbo spools instantly now. I don't really feel any power loss either. Cars just not as mean sounding any more. That's why I'm thinking about gutting the cat's. I think it will get some rumble back???

gut the cats, start car, rev a little...just a little and it will blow all that crap out. I gutted mine while they were on the car, I cut the pipe off right at the cat, gutted them(there are 2 blocks) and welded it back up, looks normal

Maybe I can leave the y-pipe disconnected and start the car to blow the stuff out. Then once they're COMPLETELY clean I'll reconnect the y-pipe. Would this be a safe plan? Or would I be better off not doing it at all?

I like the fact that cats get rid of that nasty "rasp" or whatever you want to call it. PM me and let me know how htings go though. I'm probably going back to stock exhaust as well and selling the tsp catted y and LT pacesetters

The cat delete pipes I've found are running about $200-250. I'm looking to go with an ORY instead I think. I'm just not comfortable with the thought of a chunk or two possibly going through the turbo.

I ended up going with a Stainless Works ORY. It has the rumble back again and the turbo spools just as quick as with the cats and stock y-pipe. I do have some "rasp" though, but I can live with it. I will take a little rasp to gain alot more rumble. This way I can put the cats back on come next Jan. to get the car smogged and afterwords put the ORY back on. Thanks for all the help guys!!! Later
