Default Egr Valve

Can anyone tell me why my EGR valve is on the rear of my intake and not in front like I see so many other ls1's

That sounds physically impossible.... got some pics? What year is your car? Are you sure it is the EGR valve?

Sounds like your thinking is about as straight as my user title!

Behind the intake manifold, you have the MAP sensor, brake booster, and an a/c vent controll vacuum.

This against the back of the motor I thought it was the egr since all the lines from the exhaust and air pump are running to and from it. I have an 2002 Z-28. Maybe someone else can make heads or tails of it.

Thats is the Air pipe valve, you probably have one of them on the other side too. The Air pipes pass air from the pump in the front wing to make the emmusiones seem cleaner on start up.

The EGR is at the front of the Engine, if you have a 2001 or 2002 you wont have an EGR. When looking at the engine from the front, the EGR is on the left and two main pipes come from it, one to the top of the intake the other to your exhaust manifold.

So what will I have to do to pull that from the motor along with the air pump does it need a block off plate. And I only have one of those not two there isnt one on the other side.

That's the air check valve, don't know why you don't have one on the passenger side - should be right above the #4 coil pack. Here's a link to remove the AIR system: http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.ph...ticle&artid=70

When he is saying "I just have one", I beleive he's talking about "the spaceship looking thing".

The check valves are directly upstream of where the AIR tubes bolt to the headers, there ARE 1 of those on each side.

The "spaceship thing" will need to be removed when you yank the system. You'll need to make some blockoff plates for the exhaust. You can unbolt the flap under/behind the driverside foglight and drop the AIR pump out the bottom after you unbolt/unplug it.

The big black thing in the front of this picture is the "check valve"..

The thing WAAAAAAAAAY in the back is commonly referred to as "that spaceship thing", and is pictured here. That vacuum line coming out of the top needs to be plugged as well.

The "spaceship" thing has a clip that slides into a slot on the manifold. You have to depress the clip to let it pop out of the slot. It's cliped in there the same way as the gas tank vent solenoid thing (beside the #1 injector) is fastened, look at it for reference.

BTW - that write up on LS1camaro.net does not talk about "the spaceship thing", as it did not come on early cars. Mine did not have it, but my friends 02 did.

Here is a write up that does include "the spaceship thing". Anybody know why they started to put it on the later model cars?

I believe it is just located down by the pump on the early cars now that I think about it. It doesn't have a vacuum line running to it I'm sure though. I've got my old system in the shop, so I'll take a look tomorrow.
