Default Long Tube Headers SLP or Hooker

I heard that SLP are extremely hard to install, is that true? Does anyone know which one makes better power? Any other LT's that work good? Thanks for the help.

Not to offend anyone that might have them but the actual performance gains from SLP LTs are considered by many to be questionable at best....go with Hookers or Jet-Hots instead IMO.

SLP's are harder to install than most headers.
(they also have the worst ground clearence)

I think power should be around the same.
Check out QTP's/thunder/ppc's that give great gains, high quality, and have good clearence

Hooker's were my first choice but I came across some SLP's a guy was selling coated inside and out for $550. I think I'm still going to go with the Hooker LT's though.

Im also looking into getting some headers. Do yourself a favor and do a search for headers, or brand names in this section of the forum, and read about each type. They all seem to have problems... hitting k members, not long enough, bad coating, clearance issues with the floor boards, 02 Bung (dont know what this means yet). Someone said it comes down to which problem do you want to deal with. If jet hot really did fix their k member issues, then from what I've read you might want to try them, or at least call them.
good luck

Personally I love my SLP's. Mine are coated inside and out. Did the install myself, passenger side was a little trickey. driver side virtually put themselves in. My car is lowered, and if you pay attention the "clearance" issues are not an issue. As far as the performance and sound I love them. That is just me though. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll help you best I can. Hope this helps.

I bought the SLP's on a GP and I have been happy with them, they still look great as they are coated and stainless and they don't have any sort of fitment issues as far as banging into different places of the car once they are installed. The drawback is it seems that most other headers give 5 or so more hp. Oh yeah and the install was kinda hard, had to loosen the tranny mount and pry the tranny over with 12 inch long 2x4 to get the headers to slide up in there. I would say if you dont care about fitment issues and want max hp get something other than SLP, If you do care about fitment and appearence issues then go with the SLP's.

I put SLP's on my H/C supercharged setup and noticed a major difference over shorties. Although the gains were significant I would not buy them again because of ground clearance issues.

Another camp with the SLP's. I too have the whole setup (LT's, y-pipe, cats) and did the install myself. They look really good, the install took some patience, but the sound and the performance gains (for me anyway) are awesome! If your'e the type that likes to wrench on your car, then go ahead with the SLP's. They are pricey tho (around $900) compared to other LT's on the market.

The 550 price mentioned earlier is a smoking good deal. Does it inclued the stainless Y and cats?

If you are doing heads at the same time, then they should all be about the same work to install.
