Default 1 7/8 headers w/ merge collectors

I will be doing a monster cam that favors
the exhaust side.

My Question-
Is there any loss going to a full 1 7/8"
(with race merge collector)as opposed to
1 3/4 with full race merge collector?

It will be a dual exhaust with Borla XR-1's
almost directly off the header with dumps(all 3")
I will probably go with QTP's.
I haven't ruled out stepped headers,either.
I'm open for opinions.

Thanks,
Sean

Id say you may loose some low end torque. If you car is gonna live in the upper RPM range, they may work well for you. I remember reading JS actually made less power with his Dynatech stepped headers than his MAcs. Do you homework, they may be better suited for a stroker than a stocked cubed motor.

Sean, first off, sorry we never got back to you- Jason ended up with the wrong valve seals, so that stopped our cam swap- but check out bigSS' updated numbers in the internal section

Next- Mirror Jasons setup- Non stepped, 1.75 dynatechs, Stainless merges, and an ORY pipe ( for you, setup your exhaust after the collector like you said above). I put that on his car friday night. I will have the cam in wednesday and we will see how it does that weekend

If it makes good power, there is your setup, if not, well, we wont have to worry about that

FWIW, bigSS is looking into exactly what you speak of. Whats your time frame here on this project?

Early april.
My car goes in for the cage March 21st.
When it comes back...it's power time!

I'll put the cam in and dyno with the exhaust
I have on now.(with tuning)
Put the new exhaust on and redyno.

I sent your Dad a similar/related e-mail,but haven't
heard from him.

I like the QTP headers, have you checked them out?

Alex has some DAMN nice numbers.
I plan to hit over 420rwhp-G5X-2.
Everyone always doubts me,I always prove 'em wrong.

they do make one but you have to special order it from them.

1 7/8 will work on a stock cube engine you just need to have alot of power to use it. That means really good heads and a 224+ cam.

Do Kooks straight 1 7/8 with merged collectors. Kooks has a cool semi-merge, but since you wont have a Y or crossover, a real merge is the ticket.

is this moster cam around 232/240?

No real info on them on the net yet. TEA sells KOOKS headers.

Does Dynatech make a 1&7/8 full length header?

I don't think they do,but I'm not sure.

I'm starting to think a stepped header would
work better.
But I'm keeping in mind future progress.
(N2O,heads,cubes,ect.)

C'mon people!Let's hear it!

What's the best Drag racing header?

Kooks is also becoming a sponsor.

TR has 1&7/8 full length's too.

I need a set for my car but I'll put my old headers back on initially.

I think 1 3/4 would be better for a setup like that.
