Default Need help with vacume line

I started the car up for the first time today after a winter long "mod fest" and noticed a small vacume line with a 90* rubber boot fitting hissing. It was the line that use to go to the small diaphram/check valve (don`t really know what it was) located near the fire wall, above valve cover on the drivers side above the #7 cylinder. I`ve removed all emissions/A.I.R. related equipment and if memory serves me a air line from the pump ran back to that valve but I`m not a 100% sure as it was a while ago when I removed that stuff. I noticed when I put my thump over it it affected idle. What is this line and what do I do with it? Thanks in advance for any help. Oh, and for the record it`s a 2002 Z28 A4.

Your description of where it came from was dead on.

When I removed my A.I.R. system, I just capped it with a plug...

This is interesting. I have a 98 TA. I removed the AIR system completly after installing the FLP headers. I did [not] have a small vacuum line that needed to be capped. I wonder if this is something used on the later model cars?

The only hoses I had that were associated with the AIR system were the large hoses with the check valves that connected to the headers and a "T" in that line that connected another large hose that traveled along the inside upper edge of the engine compartment down to the AIR pump.

I have a 98 also, and my AIR system didn't have it either.... possible difference in year models?

I'm almost positive that this setup was implemented in the 2001+ models. What leads me to this conclusion was an engine breakout graphic I saw on LS1Info.com as part of Terry's pushrod check tutorial.

The instructions said something like "...on the 2001+ models, there's thingy."

"Thingy" (LOL) I came so close to calling it that! You know it`s funny, as much time as I spend researching these LS1`s and how they operate you would think I would know what the hell that thing was! So SScott, you just capped it and that seemed to be fine? I could`t quite trace where the small line went to last night but if it`s sucking air it would have to be comming off the intake some where right? Thanks very much for the replys fellas. This site flat out rocks!!

LOL - Couldn't think of the name myself, it was early, and word "thingy" seemed to fit...

Just cap it and you'll be fine. I've been running w/o problems for about 5,000 miles now since I pulled the AIR system.
