Default TTS headers are a pain in the butt to install!

It took me four hours just to get them up in the car. Not even bolted up yet. Finally realized that dropping of the starter made the pass side go up. As I read on here before, I took the alt loose and pulled the motor mount bolt and raised the enginge. This took awhile just to get the jack placed so it wouldn't get in the way. I even went as far early in the install to drop the tranny mount and see if that would work. Raising or the tranny didn't help early.

It must be impossible to get these LTS in without scaping them all up . But the finish is nice and I still feel they sre exaclty what I am looking for. Now for today, bolt them up and get it ready for fire.

I ordered to 24" extensions for the front o2's. So total completion will have to wait.

And just to add to the . I had to wait a month to get them.

With the instructions on the cam install, everything went so smoothly that I feel a cam is easier than headers I hate to take stuff apart and find out it did't help get any progress .

Wow, I don't know why but for me the passenger side literally went in in like 10 minutes. Dropped the manifold out, and the header slid right in without touching a thing. I had a hard time with the drivers side because i didn't get enough material off the casting tab and kept breaking jigsaw blades (shoulda used a grinder). Banged in the floorboard a bit and with some brute force squeezed it thru. But passanger side was cake. Might have been because I had an extra pair of hands, I could see doing it by yourself being a PITA.

Also, I used 12" extensions for the front, 24s might be a bit long. Rear O2's fit fine without extensions. Also suprisingly enough, after about the first 2 weeks, I have yet to get any more cat inefficiency codes so I don't see a need to go to sims yet.

I put a set of those on a 98 TA. What a pain in the a$$. It took me 9 hours of fighting and cussing.

Just did a set of Hooker LT's last week and they were a joy. The passenger side will fall out of the car if not secured. (ask me how I know) The drivers side was cake too. From start till I was done mopping the floor was 5 hours. When I get ready for headers on my car you can bet they will be Hookers.

Glad I bought FLP's. In and bolted up in 10 minutes...

I've put them in 3 times and only had to cut the casting tab(driver side rear:30 sec with a saw-zall) on the motor and a 3/8" dimple on the firewall (driver side) right at the bottom.Passenger side went in no prob. Only works in there one-way(same goes for the driver side). You just have to find it.I did this on ramps and by myself.

NOTE:
Check the clearance on the bundle of wires that runs up the fender on the passenger side.It runs past the headers right where they come up from the collector. You should have about 3/8"-1/2" of clearance to the headers and it should be wrapped in silver heat-reflective tape.I say this because my '01 didn't have any tape. Both '02's did.

You may also end up with a SES light(even with the 02 simms) after about 40 or so miles. Just reset the code and it shouldn't come back. I had to reset it twice on my '01 before it stuck. Only had to reset it once on 1 of the '02's.

Good luck with the rest of the install and your going to love the sound.

The install is complete. The sound is very nice. Much more of a rumble. I had to modify the y-pipe to get it to even fit. After cutting about an inch off the pass side pipe, it finally went up. After fitting everything, I was to damn tired to take it down to install the gasket maker. It leaks very little, so for now, it is going to stay up for awhile. With the cam, the upper power is a monster increase .

Glad its over. Only problem is the pass side o2 went in very tight in the header. If I ever have to remove it, I'm MUCKED. I think the threads are fubared. Oh well, deal with that when that time comes.

Not sure why you had all that trouble, pass side should slide right in, drivers side either cut the tab or dimple the fire wall. The Y pipe and cats bolted right on...something doesn't right if you had that much trouble.

I was installing my TTS headers today and could not for the life of me get the passenger side header in. The drivers side was a piece of cake after putting a dimple in the firewall. I even swapped the motor mount on that side. I just finally gave up on getting the passenger side in. Hopefully I'll get some insight so tomorrow it will finally fit.

Louie, drop the two bolts on the starter and it will slide in. Thats what I had to do.

I ended up cutting a piece off the block and I jacked the car up higher so the header was perpendicular to the car and it slid right in.

I have found out that the driver side is easier if you loosen the 3 bolts on the driver side K member. Once the K member drops down a couple of inches the header should slide right up there without cutting or dippling of anything.

i did a pair on a 99. it was pretty easy. the pas. went right in, and the driverside i think i took off the oil filter, and maybe another part of it. the hardest part was getting that last bolt off the stock manifold on the pas. side.

flps are by far the easiest i have put in.
