Hit 94,027 miles and the alternator dies
With only having my 2000 camaro ss for 7 days and the 5 star dealership not helping me out after buying a 2006 cobalt ss/sc 5 months ago the alternator decides to go. How much should I be expecting for them to replace it. Its a five star chevy dealership so they will probebly use acdelco parts. I also think after only having the car seven days then should replace it for me because of how much I have spent there. any info will be appreciated, thanx
oh and I was told its really easy and im pretty savy when it comes to cars if I picked one up and did it myself does anyone have a link (with picture diagrams) of how to replace it? thanx guys!

get one from autozone or something for ~$100. it'll come with a lifetime warranty and you can install it yourself, or if you're really uncomfortable, take it to a basic shop and pay $60 for an hour of labor.

Be incredibly careful removing it. Theres a TINY red wire (called the exciter wire) that plugs into the top via a weather-tight connector. They just love to rip out. If you take most of the bolts out, you'll be able to unplug it before you try to drop the alternator.

You will need the waranty if you buy one from Autozone. I went through 2 in a year. Spend the cash and get an AC Delco. I haven't had a problem since I switched......or been stranded along side the road.
ChocoTaco,
I didn't mean that as a bash. Just do a search on the autozone/advance alternators on here. Many have problems with them.

Yeah, same alternator. Also I don't see why you think they owe you anything? You bought a car there, used, with that many miles, and expect them to put a warranty on it? If you sold a car with that many miles on it and it broke a week later would you pay to fix it? Thats why they say "as is". If you want a warranty buy a new car.

Easy install, takes about 30 minutes to do. Take off 3 bolts on the front and one in the back. Take off the idler pulley as well. Be sure to be careful with the exciter wier connector on the TOP of the alternator, if you do break it you can buy a new connector from the dealer for $20. After you have those bolts and exciter off, unbolt the main power wire from the alternator and pull it out.
