Default Ported Throttle Body- now having slight sticking problem.

Hey everyone. Last night we ported my throttle body, did a coolant bypass - added smooth fernco bellows, cut out the bottom of the air box, and cut off the egr tube that sticks down into the intake.

well at first when we took her out on the test drive she felt down on power and then started to idle funny - sounded like a vacum leak and sure enough - the egr's seal insert on top of the intake was all twisted... so problem solved there. But also - the gas pedal is hard to push down from a stop - its sticking when closed all the way - once its opened its smooth again until it comes to full rest for a second or two.
or if it snaps shut it gets a little stuck.

we sprayed some lube on the outside parts - and then adjusted the throttle cable a little - so now its barely noticable - but thats just a temporary fix.

what could be causing this? I don't think its anything to do with the inside porting - but maybe it is.
It almost feels like its sticking on the outside pieces when it comes to rest on the stop, when you're playing with it from the engine bay.

any thoughts on or experiences here?

Ypur TB might still have shavings in there. Did you take the disk out while you were porting it? Did you put it back in the same way? If it is upside down it will stick.

Mine stuck initially too. I caught it before I reinstalled but I had the blade in upside down. Make sure it goes in the same way and orientation it came out.
Also lightly screw the blade in and check operation first. Then tighten and recheck.
Mines been 100% since I bolted it back on.

Its in the same way it came out
- and I took an air gun to the TB to get the shavings out.

Is it possible that the shavings could have gotten into where the blade rotates?

But its only sticking when the TB is fully closed, not at any other point. Once the "seal is broken"(like after 10 beers) if you will, then after that there is no sticking or hesitation.

I guess i'm going to go back in there - clean it out again and see if I can't figure something out from there.

Any more ideas on what I should look for?

Yea, it sounds like mine is doing the exact same thing, its fully closed, it justtakes a little more throttle pressure to open it up, i guess i should prolly just pull it off and reassemble it. It helped mine a little bit when i slightly unscrewd the blade and worked the throttle open and closed and then tightened the screws back up, but it still sticks a bit

Do not overtighten the two screws through the blade...that is most likely the problem. Make them snug but dont tighten the hell out of them.

Mine's doing the same thing. I don't think it's the TB, try to give throttle by hand under the hood with the wire with engine OFF. You won't feel the same thing...

on mine I do. I feel it even when giving it throttle under the hood.

almost feels like a magnet is holding it down and once I move it off it frees up.

mine initially did this also, but after driving it, and tapping the throttle alot its gone now. mine was cleaned extensively before i put it back in.. i did tighten the hell out of the little bolts+loctighted them, so that was probly the cause. if loosening them alil or letting it wear till it seats better doesnt work id try taking 2k grit sandpaper to the edge to smooth it out i know i grinded my tb blade alil and didnt really make it as smooth as i could of around the outside for fear of making a gap.

You have the blade in wrong! I had the same problem, took it out and made sure the samped # on the face was forward. and hole was correct. Problem went away. Put lock tight on your blade screws. Be careful to not damage the "O"ring to the IAC. It will cause you problems at ideal if it is damaged. Do not mess with the IAC! clean it later! only do one thing at a time or you will be chasing your tail as I was!!

BobbyWS6: That was it! The blade was wrong. I thought the numbers printed on the blade should be facing FORWARD, but it shouldn't, the numbers (76541?) should be facing towards the INTAKE.
