Default A/C delete ?

Does anybody have a writeup for the proper way to take the AC out of the car? I'm sure it is pretty simple but I don't want to go ripping parts out vicariously. I would like to do it properly so I can put it back in if I chose later on down the road. Thanks for any help.

Are you talking total removal? Or just under the hood?

It is really VERY simple and does involve some vicarious ripping out of parts!!

Unbolt the pump on the passenger side of the block and quite honestly pull out everything connected to that. You should have the pump and bracket, the dryer(accumalator) and the condensor(next to the radiator) and all hoses that connect them. Tape off the connector going to the pump and wire tie it out of the way and that's pretty much it.

You end up with a good sized box full of parts.

Sounds simple enough, I am doing this as soon as I get my car back from getting the hardtop replaced. Thanks for the help.

What is involved with discharging the system? How would one go about doing this? I'm gonna be babysitting the wife for the next couple of days (she is having surgery) so I figured I would start working on the car some while she is sleeping.

Real easy, unscrew the plastic cap on the accumulator(dryer) and press in the little Scraeder valve to relieve the pressure. Then start disassembly. The accumlator is the large aluminum piece that is octagonal in shape.

On another board I was told that when you run your defroster it will kick a SES light, is this a true statement? Is there anyway to have this tuned out? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to cover all the bases.

Yes and Yes.

To take it out just follow the lines, rip basically everything out that is attatched. Took me about 2 hours to do it clean.

Is there any HP that you really gain by reamoving the AC? Or just weight & how much weight?

Ok thanks. I dont think you gain any hp really just about 40lbs out of the engine bay, and looks better too. Then I guess I should block off whatever is not removed right? Block off plates or what? Thanks for the help, its comin out next week.

you might want to take it to someone to take the freon out for you. i guess you could just push on the shradder valve but freon, is toxic. not to mention the effects on the atmosphere. but what ever floats your boat.
