Default Random Tech bullet cats vs. CNL cats?

Chris ARE 360 was telling me about CNL cats in another thread and it got me to thinking. After reading their website I wanted to know more. The don’t show any comparison between themselves and RT, so I was wondering if anyone here might have done some testing or know some more facts about this. How do they compare in terms of power and flow, and which one lasts longer or is better quality? Thanks for any info

The CNL cats are the same as the Carsound cats I believe. I am pretty sure Patrick G did testing and they (Carsound) outflowed the others. I am not sure on the durability of the various brands though.
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks again Chris. If they are Carsounds, then I think the RTs would last longer. I’ve heard that the RTs outlast Carsounds before, but also that the Carsounds do flow a little better.

Anyone else?

Can someone point me to the flow numbers on the C&L cats? I can't seem to find their flow numbers.

Before you think that C&L's are such a bargin, ask Patrick G about how many sets he blew up. I know he went through 2 sets of cats and at least one set were carsounds as I recall.

Random Tech has a good reputation for surviving under severe duty. It would be an easy choice for me - pay for it once and have it done right.

This is exactly what I've heard too Ragtop. I know carsound/cnl flow great, but the longivity seems to be in question. I've never known anybody to blow out an RT yet unless there were extreme issues with the motor running poorly. Thanks.

In tests performed by the School of Automotive Machinists in Houston a while back, the Car Sound 3" cats outflowed all other cats.

See test: www.converter.cc/catalytic_converter_flow_test.htm

I ran the 3" Car Sounds in my '98 Z-28 and while they showed no power loss compared to running an off-road pipe, the bricks would constantly blow out on me. Sounded like a barrel full of wrenches rattling around under the car. Very embarrassing!

After going through several sets of Car Sounds, I junked them in faver of no cats. Everything else would have been a step backwards in the horsepower department.

That is odd Patrick
Mine have been on for over 6 months and are still working really well
I have about 50 passes through the cats and lots of street driving miles without issues.
Maybe there have been changes with the recent ones?
I used the 3 inch SD series high flow cats. 510cfm I believe each side. (I ran dual 3 inchers.)
Thanks,
Chris
