Default QTP stainless cutout?

i got one and noticed that there is a lip of metal where the two pieces are welded inside. should I grind/smooth this down? i know this would increase flow with the cutout open but it will probably be less efficient closed b/c gases will get trapped there. Is that lip there for a reason? should I leave it be?

Doubt it will make a big difference. But if it's bugging you, get rid of it.

That lips there because its a sloppy job. My flowtech cutout that I butchered was horrible.

You can fix it, but it's not going to gain you anything. When the cutout is open, you have to remember that you've now got two 3" paths for the exhaust. It's not like it's all trying to flow out of the cutout.

Think of it more as a pressure relief than an exhaust diverter....

Yeah, it has two 3'' paths but one has less pressure and it is closer for the exhaust to escape. The 3'' cutout has such a lip that it looks more like a 2'' cutout, I agree with little gains, but nothing, I doubt that. With a lip like that more will be forced out the rest of the exhaust rather than bypassed out the cutout. (ie w/lip 40% gases cutout, 60%through catback) vs. (50%cutout, 50% through catback). Thanks for the replies guys!

I have the QTP cutout, I didn't notice any lip on mine. But it is a quality piece and gives a nice throaty obnoxious sound.

You need a lip for the othe pipe to weld to. You do not want the weld to crack Also the cut in the staright pipe is on a angle which make it large than a 3" diameter hole.

Mind your business. And for your info we make them in house, so quick talking smack.

I definitely understand why there is a lip now, I love QTP products(just got your headers), I just wanted to know if taking that lip down by using a dremel would gain a little more power(minimal). My belief is yes. Thanks QTP for awesome products.

Your dremel is going to have a helluva time with grinding that down! I'd use an air die grinder and a rotary file.
