Default Powerbond Pulley

I originally ordered an ASP pulley from Byunspeed.... he was on back order so he let me know and I agreed to get a powerbond pulley for just $10 more...

Ok I now have my powerbnd pulley andmy car is at the mechanic as we speak.... They said they werent able to install it because my powerbond pulley is a 6 rib and I got my 6 rib belt, but my other belt that is on the OEM pulley is 5 rib and he is afraid my other pulleys will not be able to support the new 6 rib belt. I dunno whats going to happen now. do I need to change all my pulleys now that Im installing the powerbond pulley? and how well is the powerbond pulley compared to ASP?

reliable brand? just as effective? etc...

Thanks.

maybe he just made a mistake and the OEM is a 6 rib pulley? Because the Belts I got for my car are a 6 rib and 4 rib. So the OEM pulley must be a 6 rib... he was just worried about the belt slipping off the pulley.

But I would still like to know if the powerbond is a good pulley..

The Powerbond is what I've been running on mine for about 1.5 years or so (probably about 15-20k miles). No issues, no problems with the belts at all. I do run a solid, manual belt tensioner though. As long as you have the right part number for the LS1, it should go on no problems and work great. And I'm fairly sure someone like Byunspeed would have sent you the right one.

I think you guys are getting confused. The main belt on the LS1 is 6 rib, the a/c belt is a smaller 4 rib.

I think he overlooked the OEM belt and assumed it wouldnt fit.

I have both goodyear gatorback belts 4 rib for A/c and 6 rib for alternator, power steering, crank.

It should work.

Did you feel a performance increase after the pulley?

Yes I thought so. So the powerbond should work fin replacing the OEM crank pulley... as should the goodyear gatorback belt replacing the OEM belts.

Yeah...I could see that happening actually. The OEM belt definitely wouldn't work with that pulley.

As for a performance increase...not really. I just put it in the "every little bit helps" category.

whoa wait. why wouldnt the OEM belt work with the pulley? isnt the Goodyear belt the same as an OEM replacement?

Also tell me more about: the solid, manual belt tensioner

would that work?? and would an OEM A/C Belt work as well, or does that also need to be changed?

Ok the underdrive pulley I have is a 25%, I dont know how to check. But the number for the part is A411537... I checked my Byunspeed email and he said I have another 25% underdrive pulley , its powerbond, not ASP . and I agreed to buy it... So anyways Im sure its the 25% because of that.

Now.

the Texas Speed website is the only place I see I can buy a belt from.

Part #s are:

Item# 19-760K6

and

Item# 19-K040378

The second number matches what

SScot236 posted, but the first one doesnt. Should I go ahead and purchase these or what?

Sent you a reply to your PM...Texas Speed is where I got my whole package. If you can't wait for shipping, just call them and find out the belt lengths, and go to your nearest auto parts store. I don't recall the lenghts off the top of my head, or I'd give them to you.

I have the same pulley and its great. Never had a problem. I also got it from TSP. You need to get 2 new belts because the pulley is smaller so the belts will need to be smaller. They correct belt numbers are on the TSP website:

I remember not so long ago I was doing a camswap on a local guys car. He has a powerbond pulley and boy did I dislike that thing. None of the bolts that come in the harmonic balancer puller fit, plus it didn't look like they would line up right if they did. I ended up using a 3 jaw pulley puller to remove it. There are several people who have nothing bad to say about it though. Good luck with it.
