Ses Light..will This Be An Ongoing Problem??
...first off, i did do a search on this subject but couldn't find a thread specific to my mods...i just got my car back yesterday after getting h/c, ls6 intake with egr prov., edelbrock shorties(i live in cali), and a ls1 edit tune.....everything was fine on the 6 mile ride home...took the car out for work this morning though, and about halfway to work(26 miles), my ses light came on. took my car back to the shop after work and they cleared out the code. he said it was an o2 sensor code and that it might be going bad. i was told it would be $80 to change the sensor...but after he cleared the code the ses light stayed off on the ride home....here are my ?'s...
1. what is causing my car to throw the o2 code if i still have my stock cats in
place??..is it the damn shorties causing the ses light to come on??
2. will the replacement of o2 sensors or the clearing of ses codes be a
persistent problem after the mods??
3. is there anything i can do...i.e. warming up the car longer...to prevent the
ses light from coming on??
4. would a wideband o2 sensor be better to use than the stock one i have
now??
i just wanna know what i'm in store for...thanks all...

1. dont know need to see what 02 code it threw. doubt its the headers (carb approved)
2. if it is a bad sensor and you replace it then the code should STAY off. if you just clear it then it may or may not come back...randomly
3. not to my knowledge
4. no just use a bosch o2 sensor if that is your problem. wideband is used for tuning/monitory aftermarket software gauges...your ecu wouldnt read it

DPW's post is correct.
You need to tell us the EXACT code the next time it comes on (Ex: P0143). It could be either front, or rear O2's. The rear O2's may give you an SES light because the car's tuning may be sending an air/fuel mixture past the cats that's not within the "acceptable" range for the stock rear O2's.
The only thing the rear O2's do, is make sure the cats are functioning. The easiest thing to do for them is to have your tuner set the PCM to report no error, or throw no codes, for the downstream O2's (rears).
If it's the front O2's throwing codes, and it persists, I suggest swapping them for Bosch 13111 O2 sensors. They are corvette rears, but the only difference they have from our stock fronts is longer wires, and better heaters.
Here's where you can get them cheap as *****.....

yea there was a guy at work that had jet hot long tubes that cracked up by the head and they were leaking. setting a code you have to ask him exactly what code it is because there are a few o2 codes like voltage to high valtage to low improper cycle and the list goes on.

When I installed my edelbrock shorties, I had the same problem. Everything was fine before the install, but one of my rear O2's threw a code not long after. Basically, the O2 was operating right at the edge of it's limit and the new headers threw off the A/F ratio enough to cause an SES light. I simply removed the offending sensor, plugged in a new one and problem solved.
