Question Dynomouth vs. Borlamouth vs. Magnamouth??

I have to admit I was a noob when I first started modding my car. I started off by buying a Loudmouth.....

Now I am pretty sure I am going to buy long tubes, so here is my dilemma.....

I am getting long tubes, and a catted Y pipe. I have a loudmouth, but I am not sure if I should keep it or not. Any advice??? Personal experience???

KEEP IN MIND, I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT SO MONEY IS A FACTOR!!!!

eh????

The LM is a great catback, well made, perfect fit and flows better than ANY of the other 3" catbacks.

Running LT's and a catted Y with a LM will equal similar sound to running stock CATS, manifolds and the LM.

So do you like the LM with stock manifolds and cats?

If YES then no problem.

If NO or you plan on an ORY, then you have 2 options:

Option 1 - Swap the LM resonator muffler for a bullet muffler. ALL bullet mufflers are built and designed along the same lines. So they all tend to sound rather similar providing they are of the same length and diameter. Pakcing material type will affect the sound.

So a Borla, Magnaflow or Dynomax bullet should all sound pretty similar. I've heard more reports of drone with the Dynomax, but that might be the sizing of the bullet as opposed to the brand.

Borla are nice but a **** load of $$$$ whereas the Magnaflow is almost identical in most respects and costs a lot less, espcially if you buy from Ebay.

Option 2 - Get a different catback.

I went with the Loudmout II as my first mod as well besides a lid. Absolutely loved the tone and noise level. Last summer I installed QTP LT's with their catted Y and kept the LM II. The sound level totally changed, the car is obnoxiously loud at WOT but sounds better than before at low speeds and idle. I am still torn about changing it out since I love the look of SLP, but I feel it's just too loud for my tastes. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I called myself a noob is because of how many people say it is a bad catback with lts. I love the sound that it has now, but anything louder might be a little annoying, and I HATE drone. I just hope someone can lead me in the right direction before I spend a whole lot of money....

Personally what I'd do is this.

Do the LT's and what ever mid you want first and see how you like it.

If it's ok, then you've saved yourself time & money. If you don't like it then you are back to the same options.

But remeber swapping in a straight thru bullet muffler (like all listed so far) will have an effect on sound, but the db level will be pretty similar, i.e. LOUD!!!

If you really don't want anything as loud or louder then an alternative catback would probably be a better and easier bet.

Very wise words, modding your car around what other people tell you online compaired to what you like is kind of silly.

If you like it keep that setup if you don't then post up what to do.

I like the Borla XR-1 because not only the case is stainless steel but also the interior uses stainles steel fibers instead of fiber glass. So the sound will not change over time.

I had the Dynomouth with Mac mids and ORY and it was obnoxious. I put in a Borla XR-1 #40085 and am very happy with the way is sounds now. no more rasp.

Yep pretty standard for the vast majority of bullet mufflers available today.

I have a mangamouth stock manis for now

I still agree with 300/bhp. Wait before you mod.

Frankly I like the tone of mangmamouth the best hence I have it, they all will still be real loud and sound nice it's just a stuble change of sound each bullet offers.

ls1 owners are so picky for exhausts

Wow, that sounds sick. Well, I think what I am going to do is buy some lts, and put them on. If I don't like the sound, I am going to either go Borlamouth, or Magnamouth. Thanks for all of your info!

Any more input is still welcome!!!!

I had the Loudmouth, then the DynoMouth and now I am happy with the BorlaMouth. A big cam, no cats and LTs made the LM sound like ***. The DM barely muted the drone and did nothing for the rasp. BM kept most of the roar, but WAYYYY less drone and zero rasp. Best $100 spent...evar!

fyi, magnaflow makes both a 4" and 5" round muffler that could be used. The 5" round would be quieter.
