Default Borla Exhaust Plugs?????

Hey guys i just bought a 2000 ws6 and am trying to figure an exhaust setup for it........awhile back i was at some car shows and saw what i thought was a borla setup on a ws6 but the guy had 2 plugs in the right side pipes so it was run through the muffler........then uncapped the plugs and i guess it ran as a straight pipe avoiding the muffler.......is this possible or how does this work....(is it even a borla)???

thanks

Yes. The adjustable Borla catback comes over the axle and enters a y-pipe. The passenger tailpipe doesn't pass through the muffler. They supply plates that either block 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, or 0% of the flow out of the passenger tailpipe depending on how aggressive you want the exhaust note. Some companies also sell an electric plate that can be used instead of the plates so you can control it with a switch inside the car.

But that pic is of the LT1 Borla cat-back.

I have Borla on my T/A with the QTEC electric cut-out (gate), I like it!

Peace,
Craig.

Thanks for all the info guys........i really like the versatility of the borla but my TA is stock and cant decide between the corsa and the borla.......it doesnt hurt anything to plug the one side so it runs straight does it?

Borla is cool because you can open it or close it, but it can sound really raspy with full exhaust with no cats.

Corsa is very nice as well, but its a very heavy system and the baffle in the muffler breaks all the damn time. Alot of Corsa owners I know have had the baffle break in their muffler and OMG it sounds like **** when that happens.

There is only one side you can "plug." We call it closed Borla, but it makes all of the exhaust go through the muffler and is very quiet. If you take out the plate and run it open its like a cut-out. Thats why if you have a Borla cat-back you just slap an electric cut-out in there and open/close from the driver's seat with ease.

Peace,
Craig.

This was my '99 with no cats through a closed Borla...

You kind of have to listen through the music.

This is in the car with the Borla open and no cats...

This was before the cats were removed with the Borla open...

Sounds really good thanks for the clips......i plan on a set of stainless headers and high flow cats along with the borla so between all the adjustments and electric cutout i should be able to keep it quiet and nice and loud at the flick of a swith from what u guys are telling me

Just whatever you do, don't buy SLP stainless steel headers.

Another thing about Borla, it has a LIFETIME warranty.

This is the electric cut-out I have inside my Borla for about 2-1/2 years now:

Quick Time Electric Cutout Valve Single 3 Inch For Borla Exhausts

Just flip the switch and open/close it. Look around on that site, they have vid clips of it in action.

Peace,
Craig.

Before i got my true duals i had borla on mine. I loved it! The only reason i got rid of it is because ive had nothing but borla on every single car ive owned, and decided it was time for something different. but id still recommend it to anyone. And god do i miss that ground clearence

Does anybody know what kind of plugs you can stick in the tips. I know i have seen a guy on the road before with plugs in his borla. And i'm pretty sure one of the guys over at TTP told me about something you can get from a pool store. I really don't remember exactly what though, but that would make it a lot easier to close it without the expense of an electric cut out.

It's 3 bolts. You should be able to switch the plates out in 5 minutes if you don't have an electric cutout.

The plugs that i had seen on both cars were just your standard home depot jobs....basically they are black rubber...then they have a t handle twist at the top.....when u turn the t handle it pushes out the sidewalls of the rubber and holds the plug in place.......simply unscrew the t handle to release the pressure and presto.......open pipes and loudness
