Default Cutouts, 1 or 2?

I'm thinking about having my Y-pipe redone and made custom with a flowmaster merge by a local shop, so I figured it would a good time to have a electric cutout or two put in.

Would there be any benefit to putting a cutout behind each header (right about where the cats should be) instead of in the I-pipe, or would it not benefit any from that? It seems like to me like it would benefit from having them come out of their own individual 3" pipes instead of having to squeeze into the one 3" pipe before coming out, but I don't know.

How would the sound be effected with behind the headers vs. in the I-pipe? I want it loud... Like a dragster... lol

Which brand would you suggest too?

Thanks!

Well its hard to beat the sound of 2 cutouts right off the headers. I really like mine. Closed it sounds near stock (no cats) open it is almost like running open headers.
I'm sure there is more power to be had with duals. How much would depend on placement but I doubt it is more than 5hp or so. The sound is reason enough for me.

I have run 2 cut outs and if your looking for loud thats the way to go. My car with both open and bolt ons is much louder than any of the other cars i have seen even with heads and cam and one cut out. I havent run just one cut out but i did drop 2 tenths and pick up 2 mph just opening the cut outs on passes made the same day within an hour of eachother.

On my old motor and automatic tranny, I had stock heads, gm hotcam, dual cutouts, pacesetter headers, LS1 intake, airlid, SLP loudmouth....did 365rwhp with the dual cutouts open, and 349rwhp with them closed. I gained around 16rwhp with the dual cutouts open over my loudmouth, which as anyone knows is probably the most freeflowing catback, aside from true duals, on the market.

Did you have the cut outs right after the header?

Wow, thats a lot. I like the sound of that . The guy at the shop I just went to didn't know if he could fit two cutouts in there though. Did you have any problem fitting them in there? Where did you put them? Have you had any problem with them leaking at all either? That was another thing he was worried about. I wouldn't want that either.

Mine are welded at the very front of the ORY where its straight. There is just enough room there. They do hang a little low, but if you take it easy on anything that would be really close to the bottom of the car anyway, you should have no problems. I bought two of the soft aluminum gaskets to use on them that you can get at advance or autozone or probably napa. they dont leak from what i can tell.

yeah, the dead soft aluminum gaskets from flow tech or percy's are killer for sealing flanges.

No....I had 2 cutouts!!! HAHAHA(evil laugh)! I had the dual cutouts before I got the loudmouth catback. I got it off a friend who wanted something with less rasp. I personally love the sound and would like to have another one, just looking for the right price.
