Question Factory Tunnel Brace

I have noticed a few of you guys have removed your Tunnel Braces. I would like to do the same due to it causing my true dual setup to vibrate. Are there any draw backs from removing it that I shoud be aware of????

If you're talking about that flimsy stamped steel piece, I doubt there are any drawbacks of taking it off.

Its on there for a reason. As cheap as GM is they aren't going to pay one extra penny to put a part on one of their cars that isn't needed.

My understanding is that it is supposed to act like a drive shaft loop.

I'd just ditch it too...I had to on my '02 Z to fit the 3" TDs. Get some SFCs if you're worried about the car flexing.

You can bend that brace over your knee.... it's not going to stop any chassis flex, lol. It's only useful purpose is a sort of driveshaft "loop", mine has been gone for years.

I took mine off and repaced it with a Lakewood Tunnel Brace/Drive Shaft Loop. You should really have something there in case of D.Shaft failure.

Lots of people don't run them. Shouldn't be a problem. I'm guessing that GM only added it for safety reasons NOT any sort of structural support because as mentioned previously its NOT very strong at all.
