Default Changing Motor Mounts

Is changing the motor mounts something an average level home mechanic can do in their driveway? What's involved?

Lots and lots of fun. Look for the writeup that Luna did. Its a step by step how-to. Its a big PITA. My cam and springs was easier, lol. But well worth it.

There are 2 writeups on it in the stickies. You can do it in the driveway, set aside about 6 hours to get it done, its kinda a PITA but its not very technical.

I paid my mechanic 100 bucks to have him do it and never looked back. Big PITA esp if you already have headers in.

I would set aside a lot more than 6 hours, you can prolly get it done in 6 if everything went smoothly, but nothing ever does. Set aside a whole saturday and you should be good, it depends how much youre doing at the same time.

But as brad said, its not technical, just time consuming

Yeah it's nice having connections in that area. Anytime I need anything done he always tells me anywhere between 100-1000 for the quote . It's always on the lower end.

Mine took about 10 mins but the engine was out It is something you can do in your driveway but just be prepared to spend an entire day on it. Good luck!

How would it be if your were doing solid motor mounts while doing headers?

My guess is not bad at all. I had to grow an extra elbow to do it with the headers/starter still on the car. I think all together I worked for about 10 hours to get mine in. But, I went pretty slow.... and I had a bolt want to strip out on the block. A grade 8 bolt went in where the stock one didnt. Oh, you might want to grind the long bolt that goes thru the mount down to a point...like a pencil. It helps getting it back in. I think the most annoying part was getting the holes lined back up.
